 (Where Did Paul Get His Message?)

(After being beaten, flogged and jailed in Philippi) 1 - They passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, and came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue, 2 so Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbaths he reasoned from the Scriptures [how Jesus fulfilled the suffering messiah prophecies, and Isaiah 53:4 - “Surely He has borne our infirmities..”] 3 explaining and proving that it was predicted the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead [Ps.16:10] and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you is the Christ” [Christos - Christ, anointed one, messiah, from the Greek verb χρίω-chrio - to anoint]. 4 And some who were there were persuaded, and joined Paul and Silas, as did many of the devout Greeks and quite a few of the leading women. 5 But the leaders were jealous, so they sought out some men from the market square, and persuaded them to form a mob and a rabble, and to set the city in uproar. {Hired agitators.} They attacked the house of Jason, 6 and forced him and some of the brothers out into the crowd, and then dragged them before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here! 7 Jason has received them! And they’re all acting against the decrees of Caesar! Saying there’s another king, Jesus!”

     8 And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard this. 9 They took money as security from Jason and the others, and then they let them go.

     10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the synagogue. 11 Now these people were more noble than those in Thessalonica, and received the word/message with all eagerness, and were examining the Scriptures daily to see if it were so. [Paul, previously Saul, had been a Pharisee, and was raised and educated in the scriptures.] 12 Many of them believed, with quite a few Greek women of high standing as well as men. 13 But when the synagogue leaders from Thessalonica learned that the message of God was proclaimed by Paul at Berea, they came there and agitated and stirred up the crowds there as well. 14 Then the brothers immediately sent Paul off by way of the sea, but Silas and Timothy remained in Berea for a while.

8 - For not only has the message and news of the Lord been told by you (Thessalonian believers) in Macedonia and Achaia, but news of your faith in God has been heard of everywhere, so we need not even say anything. 9 For the good reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, has all been reported to us. 10 And now you are waiting for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath that is coming. {Written pre 70 CE, and the razing of Jerusalem that occurred in that year of 70 CE - Rev.12:(5)6. And refers to the later full scope version, from the “bowls” of Revelation which occur in the sounding of the 7th trumpet. Ps.90:3,5-7—his ‘wrath’ = cause and effect, which includes “dust to dust” aka, entropy. And ashes.} (Isaiah 24:20/Rev.10:4.)

     2:1 - For you yourselves know, brethren, how our coming to you wasn’t in vain. [Acts 17:1-8,13, Paul is writing this letter.] 2 But, as you know, though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict. (In the previous town to their coming to Thessalonia, the leaders/authorities of Philippi had flogged and then imprisoned them, Acts 16:11-38.)

     3 For our appeal is not due to error, or impurity, or any attempt to mislead. 4 But we have been entrusted by God with the gospel {the Good News message} and so we speak. Not to please man {and the world’s view on things} but to please God. To please the one who tests the heart. 5 For as you know, we never came with words of flattery {ingratiatingly} nor with a pretext for profit and greed. And God is our witness. 6 Nor did we seek honor or glory from you or others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ. 7 But we were humble among you, and gentle like a nursing mother taking care of her very own children. {Yesterday’s verses talked about how Paul and the friends and fellow believers traveling with him, had been examples, and in turn the Thessalonian believers were now examples.. Examples of what? Of progressing toward the character, heart and mind like Jesus and oF both he and the Father. They are so close both administer God’s Spirit/Presence. Same as will saturate and “seal” humanity and creation. Ruling Spirit, humble and gentle, love and life.}

   Paul’s Letter To The Philippians

14 - It was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of this good news, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in regard to the matter of giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in (neighboring) Thessalonica you sent me aid twice. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit! 18 Now I am full, I have enough and more. I’m well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. A fragrant offering! - A sacrifice - acceptable and pleasing to God {Ps.40:6}. 19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches through the glory that’s in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

     21 Greet every saint (believers/followers) in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. 22 All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar's household. 23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit!
