11-04 - MARK 14 1-9

πŸŒ™ 1 - And now it was two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread [two days in a row, called interchangeably, as was the whole week also referred to by either name]. And the leaders of the nation, the chief priests and scribes, were seeking how to arrest him on the sly and have him killed. 2 But they were thinking ‘not during the feast, in case there should be an uproar from the people’.

3 Meanwhile Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the (ex)leper, as he was reclining at table. And a woman came in with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure spikenard, very costly and fragrant, and she broke it and poured it over his head. [Anointing of a king, Christos - “the anointed one”.] 4 There were some there who were indignant and thought to theirselves, ‘why was this fine ointment wasted like that? 5 It could at least have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And so some were scolding her.

6 But Jesus said, “Don’t bother her. Why are you troubling her? She’s done a good thing. 7 You always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you’ll not always have me. 8 She has done what she can. She has anointed me beforehand for burial. 9 And truly, I tell you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in all the world, this will be told about her.”
