05/13 - GospeL Verses
Jesus, alone with his eleven disciples on the evening before his execution, and before his arrest, Judas has left, the other disciples thinking perhaps he has gone to buy what they need for the Passover meal, as he was the one who carried the money bag.
1 - “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions [monḗ - from ménō - to remain, abide – an abiding dwelling-place i.e. not transitory; monḗ - used twice in the NT both times by Christ, an individual dwelling place]. If this wasn’t so, would I tell you that I go to prepare a place for you? (I go to be crucified, so that where I am you may be.) 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I’ll come back and take you to myself, so where I am you may be. 4 And you know the way to where I’m going.” 5 Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said, “I’m the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you know me, you know my Father. So from now on you do know him, and see him.” [See - horaó - to see, perceive, understand.] 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and it will be enough for us.” 9 Jesus said, “Have I been with you so long, and you’ve not known me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. So why say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not know that I am in the Father? And the Father is in me? The words I say to you I don’t say by my authority, but the Father - who dwells in me - does his works. 11 Believe me, that I’m in the Father and the Father’s in me. Or believe because of the works [ergon - work, task, employment; a deed, action; that which is wrought or made, a work, act/deed that carries out a purpose].
