06/30 ~ From New Testament Letters

   (In the Order Believed Written)

4 - Think of how great this man was to whom Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! [From Abraham’s “battle against the kings” with a small band of about 300 men to rescue his nephew Lot from being in captivity to four Mesopotamian kings.] 5 And those descendants of Levi [from whose line were the civil servants, at first the tabernacle, and later the temple, literal center of the twelve tribe nation] have a commandment in the law to gather tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers, though they too are descended from Abraham.

6 But this Melchizedek, received tithes from Abraham. And he blessed Abraham who had the promises from God. 7 It’s beyond dispute that the inferior in office is blessed by the superior. 8 In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one of whom it is fabled/implied/made to look as though he lives. [Abraham met him coming back from the rescue of Lot, he was “Priest of Salem” (which means peace) and the way they met is like Melchizedek had no beginning or end.. like we see his path, Abraham crossed, and it just goes on without visible beginning or end.. And therefor (Paul or Apollo) is saying Melchizedek is a type of Christ, the Messiah.] 9 One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes to Melchizedek through Abraham, 10 when they met.

ACTS 18 17-28

         WeekLy BooK oF Acts

17 - And after that the mob seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal. But proconsul Gallio paid no attention to any of it.

18 Paul stayed a while longer in Corinth [a year and a half all together] and then he took leave of the brothers and sisters and set sail for Syria. Priscilla and Aquila went with him. At Cenchreae he cut his hair, as part of a vow. 19 And they arrived at Ephesus, whereupon he went to the synagogue and reasoned with the Hebrews (Jews). 20 They asked him to stay longer, 21 but he said, “I’ll return to you if God wills,” and he set sail from Ephesus.

22 When he landed at Caesarea, he went up (to Jerusalem) and greeted the church, and then he went down to Antioch. 23 After spending some time there, he departed and went from one place to the next through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

24 Meanwhile a Hebrew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent speaker, competent in the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately [akribΓ³s - with exact precision] the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only about the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, and when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more fully. {Explaining the blessing of the Holy Spirit, the Presence of God the Father with us.} 27 And when he wished to cross to Achaia (of Greece) the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to make him welcome. When he arrived in Corinth, he was a great help to those who through grace believed, 28 for he persuasively refuted the non believing Hebrews in the synagogue, showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ [Christos - anointed one, messiah].

1 Corinthians 3 1-6

10/27 ~ From New Testament Letters

     (In the Order Believed Written)

         Paraphrased by Necessity

1 - But,  I (Paul) couldn’t address you as spiritual people, but as people still carnal, for you were infants in Christ. (They were baby believers.) 2 I fed you with milk, for you weren’t ready for solid food. And even now you’re not yet ready. 3 For while there’s jealousy, arguments and strife among you, are you not still carnal? Behaving only in the human way? 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? (Not sacred/hagios translated holy.)

5 What then is Apollos? (A good teacher and preacher “knowledgeable in the scripture”.) What is Paul? We are only servants of the Lord, through whom you believed God’s message. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God is the one who gave and gives the growth.
