JOHN 7 37-8:1

                   (paraphrased)

37 - On the last day of the feast, the “last great day” (Lev.23:36) Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink! 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of their heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 Now he said this about the Spirit{/Presence of God} which those who believing in him would receive, for the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

     40 When they heard him say this, some of the people said, “This really is the Prophet!” 41 Others said, “This is the Christ!” But others said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee? 42 Has not the Scripture said the Messiah comes from the offspring of David, and Bethlehem, the village of David?” 43 So there was a division among the people concerning him. 44 Some of them {leaders} wanted to arrest him. But no one laid hands upon him. (They had sent officers out to arrest him.)

     45 The officers then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?”46 The officers answered, “No one ever spoke like this man!” 47 The Pharisees answered, “Have you been deceived as well? 48 Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? 49 But this crowd that doesn’t know the law, is accursed!” {Beneath us?! Is the ignorant rabble!?} 50 Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before (by night) but who was one of them, said, 51 “Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning about his works?” 52 They answered him, “Are you from Galilee too?! Search and see! No prophet comes from Galilee.”

     [The earliest manuscripts do not include 7:53 to 8:11.] 53 They all went home to their own houses, 8:1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

JOHN 4 3-26

3 - When Jesus left Judea and departed again for Galilee, 4 he had to pass through Samaria. 5 And he came to Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph, 6 where Jacob's well is. Jesus, weary from his journey, was sitting beside the well, and it was about the sixth hour. [Around noon.] 7 And a woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” It being that Hebrews have no dealings with Samaritans. (Believed to be half Assyrian, Israel was to stay ‘separate’ from the nations.)  10 Jesus said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that’s saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.”

     11 The woman said, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with! And the well is deep. How will you get the living (fresh) water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and all his livestock.” 13 Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I give will not thirst again. The water that I give becomes a spring of water welling up into nonfading (“aionion”) life.” 15 The woman said, “Sir, give me this water! So I won’t thirst and have to come here to draw water.”

     16 Jesus said to her, “Go and call your husband, and come back.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’ 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have isn’t your husband. You have said the truth.” 19 The woman said, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say Jerusalem is the place where people should worship.” {Every pattern has meaning.} 21 Jesus said, “Believe me woman, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.  22 You worship what you don’t know. We worship what we know, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour’s coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship, must worship in spirit and truth.”

     25 The woman said, “I know Messiah’s coming, who is called Christ, and when he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

A Daily ‘Enter the Story’ Gospel Reading & Study

Streams Of Living Water

I was thinking today, about how glorious the all made new will be. How a part of the glory will be the earth made new, "wherein righteousness is to dwell". The physical universe. I was thinking about this as I was looking at a glorious tree this evening, with a glorious sunset behind it.

When I happen across the idea, I find myself rejecting it (strongly), the idea that we will be some sort of floating consciousness. If that's what God wanted, that's what He would have made. (Imho.)

Those heavenly creatures around His Throne, crying "Glory! glory! glory! To He who is, and who was and is to come".. Real creatures. I would be sad to think they are mere metaphor for some abstract mystery. Not that I don't believe in abstract mysteries! And maybe like all things they are metaphor.. (also). But I think people need a gospel and a promise they can get their teeth into.

I think the living water is first and foremost within. Refreshing and keeping "alive", renewed and inspired the soul/being/individual. But I also think it will be a literal river of crystal clear sparkling water(s) upon the planet made new. In the vicinity of which the lion will eat straw like the ox and the bear will graze with the cow. I also think His leading His own to springs of living water includes during critical apocalyptic days when he will lead His own to fresh water. (Artesian.)
