            ☀️ Philippians 4:14-23

14 - It was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of this good news, when I (Paul) left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in regard to the matter of giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in (neighboring) Thessalonica you sent me aid twice.

     17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit! 18 Now I’m full, I have enough and more. I’m well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. What a fragrant offering! - A sacrifice {on God’s altar} - acceptable and pleasing to God {Ps.40:6}.

     19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches through the glory that’s in Christ Jesus.

     20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

     21 Greet every saint (believers/followers) in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. 22 All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar's household. 23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit always!

23 - Later that same day some Sadducees came to him (Jesus). Now, the Sadducee party says there’s no rising from the dead. They came and asked him a question, 24 “Teacher” they said, “Moses told us, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother should marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother’s name.’ 25 Now there were seven brothers and the first married and died, having no children and left his wife to his brother. 26 So too the second and third, down to the seventh. 27 And after them all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.”

     29 Jesus answered them, “You are wrong. You know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they are not given in marriage nor wed, but are like the angels in heaven.

     31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you never read what was said to you by God, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He’s not God of the dead, but of the living.”

     33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. {“Brothers and sisters, we don’t want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so you don’t grieve..” 1Thes.4:13.}

The first took a wife, and died without children. 30 And the second, 31 and the third wed her, and likewise all seven. But none left a child and died. 32 Afterward the woman also died. 33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will she be?! For the seven had her as wife.”

       34 Jesus said, “The sons and daughters of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 Moreover, the accounted worthy to obtain the age [aion] of the resurrection out of death, neither wed [gameó - marry, wed] nor are given, in marriage, 36 neither do they die anymore, because they are like the angels and are sons and daughters of God, and of the resurrection. 37 But that - the dead - aRe raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38 Now he is not God of the dead! (And deny also spirits/souls or angels, so were total materialists, the other extreme of human inherent immortality, aka immortal soul/greek psyche - we have a psyche but “there is only One who is immortal”. Enduring life is through the Son into reconciliation with the Father/Life who “is Perfect” and Incorrupt. Full union at one of two vivifications, will mean no more entropy/slow gehenna fade/crucible. Vivification either at Mt.13:30 as Rev.16:13-16; oR at Rev.21:5 when “death dies”.) 28 And they asked him a question, saying, “Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife but no children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name. 29 Now there were seven brothers. 12 - And they (leaders, authorities) were seeking to arrest him, but they feared the people. They knew he had told the parable against them, so they left him and went away. 13 But they sent to him some Pharisees and Herodians, to trap him in his talk, 14 who came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are true and don’t care about any man’s opinion (politics). For you’re not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar? Or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” 15 But, knowing their hypocrisy. (It was a death sentence to deny Caesar.) He said to them, “Why put me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”16 And they brought one. And he said, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar's.” 17 So Jesus said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” And they marveled at his answer.

[Paul is presenting his case and defense against his accusers before the governor Felix, in Caesarea. The hearing had been moved and Paul brought from Jerusalem in order to escape a plot that had been made to kill him.] — 13,14 - “Neither can they prove to you what they now bring up against me (Paul). But this is what I believe (and so teach) - according to the way they call a sect - I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything written in the Law and by the Prophets. 15 And holding this hope in God, my accusers also believe, that there will be resurrection. Of both the just and of the unjust. 16 Therefor I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward God and toward man. 17 After several years of being away, I came to bring gifts for the poor of my nation and to offer sacrifices. 18 And so they found me ritually purified in the temple. And there was no crowd or tumult. But some Jews from Asia— 19 they ought to be here before you to make an accusation, should they have one against me - 20 or let these men here, say what wrongdoing did they find when I stood before their council.  21 Except for this one thing that I cried out while standing among them - ‘It is with respect to the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you this day!’” [Which (deliberately) divided the council in argument, the Pharisees declaring him innocent, the Sadducees disagreeing. The argument became so fierce the Roman commander broke it up “lest they tear Paul to pieces”.]

     22 But Felix, having a somewhat accurate knowledge of “the way” put them off, saying, “When Lysias the tribune comes down, I’ll decide your case.” 23 Then he gave orders to the centurion that Paul be kept in custody but with some freedom, and that none of his friends should be prevented from supplying what he needed.

     24 Then after some days Felix came back with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him speak about the faith in Jesus as the Christ (Messiah, Savior, literally “anointed one”]. 25 And as he reasoned about justice, righteousness, self-control and about the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, “Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity I will summon you again.” 26 At the same time he hoped a bribe would be given to him from Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him. 27 When two years had elapsed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And wanting to do the Jewish (Hebrew) leaders a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.

WEEKLY BOOK OF ACTS 5:17-42

17 The high priest rose up, and all who were with him (that is, the party of the Sadducees), and filled with jealousy 18 laid hands on the apostles and put them in jail. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out, saying, 20 “Go to the Temple court and give the people this message of life!”

     21 So at daybreak they entered the temple courts, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the leaders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. 22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they returned with the report, 23 “The jail was securely locked, with the guards standing outside, but when we opened the gates, no one was there!” 24 When the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard this, they were perplexed as to what was happening. 25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.”

     26 The captain went with his Temple guards and arrested the apostles, but without force, for they were afraid the people would stone them. 27 Then they brought the apostles before the high council, where the high priest questioned them. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s death.”

     29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. 31 But God has exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit” (Presence of God) “whom God has given to those who obey him.” 33 When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law who was honored by the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a short time. 35 Then he said to his colleagues, “Men of Israel, consider what you  plan to do to these men. 36 For before these days Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and the whole thing came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. For if their purpose and activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God.” 40 They were persuaded by him and called the Apostles back in. After having them flogged, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

     41 The apostles left the high council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name of Jesus. 42 And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.”

     Very Brief Outline of Acts:

Jesus returns to where he was with the Father before his advent/visit (his brief first one).

The Holy Spirit/Presence of God is poured out on the believers who were in Jerusalem on the late Spring holy day of Pentecost. Peter speaks, there are 3000 new believers that day.

The good news message spreads, Peter is invited and goes to a Roman’s house and all believe. The first record of non Hebrew believers (besides likely some on Pentecost).

     Persecution breaks out.. jail. stoning. Pharisee Saul leads the persecution, but on his way to Damascus with papers for arrests, Jesus makes himself seen but is so bright Paul falls to the ground and is blinded. After two days he is healed and is a believer, and soon is called Paul. He wrote many (to most) of the New Testament letters, but spent a few years (it seems to me) exclusively listening to the Lord. He established many ‘churches’ in what’s called three missionary journeys, and met and worked with Mark and Luke, and quite a few others. (Luke wrote this Book of Acts.) His fourth journey is to Rome to trial as a prisoner. There’s a shipwreck on the way.. He wrote many of his letters while in prison and under ‘house’ arrest.
