☀️ A.M. 1 Peter 1:13-25
13 - Therefore, be sober minded, disciplining your thoughts. And be alert, fixing your hope [elpis - hope, expectation, trust] completely upon the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14 As obedient children, don’t be conformed to the passions of your former life when you didn’t know any better, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct {KJV has the best translation, “be ye holy”} 16 because it’s written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
[Hagios - The fundamental (core) meaning of (hágios) is "different" – thus a temple in the 1st century was hagios ("holy") because different from other buildings].
17 For if you call upon he who is Father, who judges impartially according to each person’s doings, conduct yourselves with reverence {or fear if need be, the word means both} throughout the time of our exile, 18 knowing that we were - ransomed - from the futile ways inherited from our forefathers. And not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 Known before the foundation of the world but made manifest in the last times for the sake of you {all of us} 21 who through him are believers in God - who raised Christ from the dead, revealing the glory - so your faith and hope would be in God.
22 And having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth, you now have true affection for your fellow person.
Love one another genuinely and earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you’ve been born again, not of perishable seed {and Life} but of imperishable - through the living and abiding word [logos] of God. {Through the Logos/Truth, Jesus. The scriptures are the written Logos/Truth, the bread of Life, with the Spirit/Presence of God as the wine.} 24 For “all is as grass, and all its glory, like the flowers. The grass withers. And the flower fades. 25 But the word [rhéma - words, word, statement, sayings, fact, message] of the LORD endures and stands forever.” — And this word [rhéma] is the message that was proclaimed to you.
🌙 P.M. Matthew 26:14-19
14 - Then one of his twelve disciples, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests, 15 and said to them, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they agreed to thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment on, he sought an opportunity to betray him.
17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread (week) [which days begin at sunset] the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?” [The Spring holy days are Passover, at the full moon, on the 14th day of the first month. The next day, the 15th, is the First Day of Unleavened Bread. But the entire week was referred to by both names - either Passover or Unleavened Bread. And the two days were also referred to interchangeably.
THiS first day has to be Passover day itself — which begins at sunset (rather than at midnight). Spring holy week has three Sabbaths (“no work” days) so it also has three prep days before them. These things all work to veil how utterly perfectly Jesus fulfilled these Spring holy days by his first (so brief) advent. He died on Passover - was in the grave as 1st day of Unleavened Bread was beginning - and rose exactly three days later as the third holy day of the week was beginning — a day which always follows the regular, weekly, Sabbath. Whereas Passover and 1st UB day - the 14th and 15th - are “moveable feasts” occurring each year on different days of the week.]
18 Jesus told them (two of the disciples) to go into the city to a certain man and say to him, “The Teacher says, my time is near, and I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.” 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they went and prepared for the Passover. {The Passover meal would not be eaten until after sunset when Passover had ended, and 1st day of Unleavened Bread had begun. His “last supper” was not the Passover as has been assumed for so long.}
Jesus died on Passover (day) at the very hour of the Passover sacrifices. And he was put in the grave at 1st day of Unleavened Bread. And rose on Firstfruits.}
