Timothy 2:16-21 Matthew 27:39-49
☀️ A.M. 2 Timothy 2:16-21
- Avoid worldly [bebélos - of babylon, babble, vain, trodden] empty babbling, for it only leads into more and more ungodliness.
And their words will spread like gangrene. Among such are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have veered away from the truth, speaking {and teaching} that the resurrection has already occurred. They are upsetting the faith of some.
But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the LORD depart from iniquity.”
Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. {“All the world is a stage” ..Shakespeare.] 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses their self from what is dishonorable, they will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, and ready for every good work.
🌙 P.M. Matthew 27:39-49
- And those who passed by (Jesus upon the cross) hurled insults and mockery at him, wagging their heads, 40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days? Save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from there!”
So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 “He saved others. But he can’t save himself. He’s the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we’ll believe in him. 43 He trusts in God, let God deliver him, if he wants to.. For he said, ‘I’m the Son of God!’”
The robbers who were crucified with him also insulted him in the same way.
Then, from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 And at about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and taking a sponge, soaked it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let’s see if Elijah will come and save him.”
