Luke 21:16-19
16 Some will be betrayed even by their parents or brother or sister, or by relatives or friends. And some will be killed. 17 You will be hated because of me and my name, 18 but not one hair of your head shall perish. (Now this is likely an idiom of the day, but I also take it to be totally accurate.) 19 In patient endurance [hupomonΓ© - patiently enduring, remaining behind and waitingπ²] keep your soul [psyxαΈ - breath, soul (psyche) the unique person and personality, the self]. 19 It is written [graphΓ³] “I will completely destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent will be no more. 20 Where are the so called wise? And the scribes, and debaters of the age? God has made foolish [mΕraΓnΕ - from mΕrΓ³s – dull, sluggish, to play the fool, foolish] the wisdom of the world. 21 God in his wisdom, has made it that he is not known through human wisdom. He decided to save by the foolishness of his message. 22 Jews ask for signs and Greeks look for wisdom. 23 We however proclaim Christ crucified, to Jews/Hebrews a hindrance, and to non Jews (the nations/gentiles) it is foolishness. 24 But to those GOD calls, whether Jew or Gentile, Christ is the power and wisdom of God! 25 The ‘foolishness’ of God is wiser than man’s wisdom. (I’ll say!) And the ‘weakness’ of God is stronger than (any of man’s) strength.
