8TH ‘DAY’ CU Journal, New Testament In A Year
Verses paraphrased due to ©‘s [ref] {thots}
☀️ A.M. Galatians 5:1-8
1 - It’s for freedom and liberty that Christ has set us free! Stand firm therefore! And don’t submit to a yoke of slavery. 2 Look, I, Paul, say to you, that if you accept circumcision {as a requirement to be in a relationship/communion and union with God who is Life} Christ will not profit you! {We cannot both earn and receive a GIFT.}
3 Again, I testify to you, every one who accepts circumcision {the law for acceptance} that they are obligated to keep the whole law. {False teachers were insisting the “New Way” had to include the “Old Way”.}
4 You are cut off from Christ, if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have fallen from grace.
5 For it’s through the Spirit - by faith - that we are eagerly waiting for the hope [elpis - expectation!] of righteousness. 6 For - in Christ Jesus - neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything.
7 You were running well. Who has hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from he who calls you.
[ “I testify to you” - marturomai - to testify, bear witness, solemnly affirm - an oath-like affirmation delivered in the hearing of God and people — biblehub dot com.]
I read this, interesting!
Paul used this word 5 times (that we know of). Twice in public speaking. And in three letters to three of the churches he founded.
1 1Thes.2:12 – “We encouraged and comforted you, and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, the One calling you into His own kingdom and glory.“
2 Gal.5:3 – About the legalistic old testament {testimony?} way — “Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.”
3 Eph.4:17 – To the Ephesian believers — “So this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do…”
4 Acts 20:26 - Later when he is saying good bye to the Ephesian believers. (They all knew it was for the last time.) “Therefore I testify to you, this day, that I am innocent of the blood of all men.”
5 Acts 26:22 – His defense in court before King Agrippa — “I stand here and testify to small and great alike…”]
🌙 P.M. LUKE 20:14-19
Biblical Hebrew days begin at sunset, not midnight.. So the gospel reading is for beginning the new day.
[Parable of the vineyard to the chief priests, scribes and some elders (leaders, authorities) continued] 14 - “But when the tenants {tyrants?} saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir! Let’s kill him! The inheritance will be ours!’
15 So they killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. What then will the owner of the vineyard do? 16 He will evict and make war with those tenants and give the vineyard to others.”
When they heard this, knowing his meaning, they said, “Surely not!” 17 But looking directly at them he said, “What does this mean then that’s written? ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the main cornerstone’? {The building block. The foundation.} 18 Everyone falling on that stone {truth} will be broken, but to have it fall upon you, is to be crushed.” {Winnowing the wheat, chaff beaten from off the grain, one esy or the other.}
19 The scribes and chief priests sought to lay hands on him at that very hour. For they knew he had told this parable against them, but they feared the people. {And the parable was fulfilled in 70 CE. If God is denied/rejected, it’s a natural consequence that his shield against the adversary’s hate and rage will fade.. They await resurrection into “aionion kolasin”/eonian korrection/age of correction, Mt.25:46, the original.}
Jesus “will draw all” Jn.12:32.
