Mark 12:12-27
12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away. 13 The Pharisees got together with Herod's followers. (Funny how leaders do that.) Then they sent some men to trick Jesus into saying something wrong. 14 βTeacher,β they said, βwe know how honest you are. You are impartial and donβt play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully. Now tell usβis it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? (The quintessential question? You could get executed for noncompliance with Rome.) 15 Should we pay or shouldnβt we?β But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. βWhy are you trying to trap me?β he asked. βBring me a denarius and let me look at it.β 16 So they brought the coin, and He asked them, βWhose image is this? And whose inscription?β βCaesarβs,β they answered. 17 βWell, then,β Jesus said, βgive to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.β His reply completely amazed them. 18 Then some from the Sadducee party, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19 βTeacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brotherβs name. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?β 24 Jesus replied, βYour mistake is that you donβt know the Scriptures, and you donβt know the power of God. 25 When the dead rise, they will not wed or be given in marriage, they will be like the angels in heaven. 26 But now - as to whether the dead will-be raised - havenβt you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses, βI am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.β 27 He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You do greatly err.β

~ Galatians 4:8-20 ~
8 Before you knew God, you were slaves of gods that are not really gods. 9 But now that you know Godβor rather are known by Godβhow is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? 10 You are trying to earn favor with God by observing certain days or months or seasons or years. 11 I fear for you. Perhaps all my hard work with you was for nothing. 12 I beg you, my friends, be like me. After all, I am like you, and you did me no wrong. 13 Surely you remember that I had an infirmity when I first brought you the Good News. 14 And even though it was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. 15 Where is that joyful and grateful spirit you felt then? I am sure you would have taken out your own eyes and given them to me if it had been possible. 16 Have I now become your enemy for telling you the truth? 17 Those false teachers are eager to win your favor, but their intentions are not good. They are trying to shut you off from me so you will pay attention only to them. 18 If someone is eager to do good things for you, thatβs all right; but let them do it all the time, not just when Iβm with you. 19 My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you, 20 I wish I were with you now. Then I would not have to talk this way. You really have me puzzled.
