         Mark 11:11-19

11 - After entering Jerusalem, Jesus went into the temple and looked around at everything. But since it was already late in the day, he went back to Bethany with the twelve disciples. (Memories, accounts, always differ.) 12 The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. 15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of thieves”. 18 The chief priests (leaders) and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching. 19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city. (Gathering tension? Sense of foreboding in the air?)

       ~ Galatians 3:8-15 ~

8 Long ago, the Scriptures said God would accept the Gentiles because of their faith. This is why God told Abraham the good news, “In you all the nations will be blessed.” (Gen.22:18) 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. 10 But the one who tries to please God by obeying the Law is under a curse. For it’s written, "Everyone who doesn't obey everything in the Law is under a curse." (Well demonstrated when we try to diet or quit a habit.) 11 Now it is clear that no one is justified with God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” 12 This way of faith is very different from the way of law, which says, “It is through obeying the law that a person has life.” 13 But Christ rescued us from the Law's curse, when he became a curse in our place. This is because the Scriptures say that anyone who is nailed to a tree is cursed. 14 Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the nations with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that believers receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith. (“Not of works/law, LEST anyone should boast” Eph.2:9. God’s Spirit with us and in us, is what gives success, and is the new wine that goes with our daily bread.) 15 To give a human example brothers and sisters [adelphos - from a same parent] even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. [Or - “My friends, I will use an everyday example to explain what I mean. Once someone agrees to something, no one else can come along and change or cancel the agreement.”]
