08/18 - GospeL Verses
31 - Then Jesus returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon and back to the Sea of Galilee, and then past there to the region of the Decapolis. [Called “the ten cities”.] 32 And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, for they wanted him to lay his hands on him and heal him. 33 And taking the man aside privately, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. (Whatever it takes? for the person to believe?) 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 And the man’s ears were opened, and his tongue was released. And he could speak plainly. 36 Jesus told them not to tell anyone. But they enthusiastically went about telling what Jesus had done. 37 For they were astonished beyond measure! Saying, “He has done all things well! He even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak!” [Isaiah 61:1,35:5; Mt.11:4-5.]
