1 - Then from there he and his disciples went to Jesus’ hometown. 2 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, and said, “Where did he get these things? What is this wisdom? How does he do such mighty works? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?! Son of Mary and the brother of James, Joses, Judas and Simon?” (James and Judas/Jude each have a letter in our New Testament. James became an important leader in Jerusalem.) “And are not his sisters here with us?” And they were offended. 4 But Jesus knowing their thoughts and what they were saying, said, “A prophet isn’t doubted except in his hometown, and among his relatives, and within his own house.” 5 And he couldn’t do miracles there, except he laid his hands on a few sick folks and they were healed. 6 He marveled over their unbelief, and went about among the other villages teaching.

7 Then he appointed the twelve and began to send them out two by two. He gave them authority over the unclean spirits, 8 and told them to take nothing for their journey except a staff - no bread, no bag, no money in their belts. 9 And to wear sandals but not take another tunic. 10 “Whenever you enter a house,” he said, “stay there until you leave from there. 11 If a town or place won’t receive you, or listen to you, when you leave, shake the dust off your feet” {don’t let it bother you} “as a testimony. I tell you, it will be more tolerable [anektoteros: tolerable, endurable] {will go better} for Sodom or Gomorrah in [en -in, on, at, by, with, among, during] ‘day’ of judgment than for that city.” 12 So they went out and they proclaimed repentance [metanoeรณ - from metรก - changed after being with, and noiรฉล - think,  so - think differently afterwards]. 13 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and they were healed.
