(“Speaking in tongues” continued.) 16 - Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can someone new coming in from outside say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when they don’t know what you’re saying? 17 For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up and encouraged.18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 Nevertheless, in church (in meeting) I would rather speak five words that will instruct others, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

     20 Don’t be children in your thinking! Be infants in evil! But in your thinking be mature. 21 In the Law (here meaning Old Testament) it’s written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord” [Isaiah 28:11]. 22 Thus tongues {orderly, here and there?} are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.

     23 But if the whole church (group/ecclesia) comes together and everyone is speaking/praying in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers come in, won’t they say you’re out of your minds? 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider comes in, they will become convinced and will ask questions and look into it all.

       Matthew 28:11-15

11 - Meanwhile, some of the guard that had been guarding the tomb (as the leaders had ordered) went into the city to the chief priests and told them all that had happened. 12 So the leaders, the chief priests, elders and scribes took council and paid a bribe to the guards, 13 saying, “Tell people his disciples came and stole the body during the night while you slept, 14 and if the governor hears of it, we will cover for you and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they had been told, and this story is believed to this day.

  ~ 1 Corinthians 14:29-40 ~

(Still answering their questions.) 29 If there is prophesying, let two or three speak, and the rest, discern. 30 And if a new revelation is received by another, let the first allow them to speak. 31 So then one by one you will prophecy, so that all will learn and be profited and encouraged [parakaleo]. 32 For the prophet is in control of the prophesying. (It’s not a robotic thing.) 33 For God is not a God of disorder and chaos, but of peace, as should be in all the churches [ekklésia - assemblies]. 34 And the women in meeting, should keep silence, for it is not allowed for them to (be) talk(ing) [laleó - talking, chatter in classical Greek, from lalos - talkative] but to (also) be in submission, as reason/logic determines. 35 And if it’s a matter of questions, instead let them ask their husband at home, for it is not proper that they be talkative [laleó] during church meeting. 36 Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet, or spiritual, they should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are from the Lord. 38 But if anyone be ignorant [agnoeó] let him be so! 39 So my brethren, desire to prophecy and don’t forbid the speaking in tongues. 40 But let all things be done properly  and orderly.
