12-13 - John 21 16-25

N.T. in a year reading & study, verses R paraphrased [  ] references {  } thots

πŸŒ™ 16 - Jesus said to Peter a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.” Jesus said, “Guide my sheep.” 17 He said to him a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said, “Lord! You know everything! You know I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed. my. sheep.” {And don’t pollute God’s temples with bad and untrue doctrine, 1Cor.3:17.}

     18 “Truly, I tell you, when you were young, you always dressed yourself and you went wherever you wanted, but when you’re old, you’ll stretch out your hands, and another will bind you and take you where you don’t want to go.” 19 This he said to show by what kind of death he would die, but which would make God known. And after saying that, he said, “Follow me.” {Anyway. What else could/would he do?}

     20 Peter turned and saw Jesus’ favorite disciple following them (John referring to himself) the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and said, “Lord, who is it that’s going to betray you?” 21 When Peter noticed him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it’s my will he remain until I return {fully, and implying a span of time} what is that to you? You, follow me.” 23 So the saying spread abroad among the believers that this disciple was not going to die, yet Jesus didn’t say that he wasn’t going to die, but said, “If it’s my will he remain until I come, what is that to you?”

     24 This is the disciple who is testifying and bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know his testimony is true. {John saying he knows his testimony is true, and knows whereof he speaks.} 25 There also are many other things that Jesus did, but if every one of them were to be written, I suppose the world itself couldn’t contain the books that would be written.

     (The end of the book of John. But he also wrote 1, 2, and 3 John, and the account of the Revelation vision.)
