Hebrews 5:1-4 Luke 2:1-7
☀️ A.M. Hebrews 5:1-4
1 - In the earthly priesthood, every high priest from among men is appointed to act on behalf of the people in their relation to God. They offered gifts and sacrifices for sins. {The human psyche and conscience fears God. It’s not God who “is Love”, that needs to be appeased. There wAs the atonement, no doubt! Also called a ransom. And salvation/safety.}
2 A priest can deal gently with the unknowing and wayward, since he himself has human weakness [astheneia - weakness, disease, infirmity, sickness, frailty, dependence, infirmity that causes inability to pursue or do what they would like to; from asthenes - “a” not, and sthenes - strength - without strength]. 3 So the {earthly} priest has to offer sacrifice for their own sin [hamartia - missing the mark] just as for those of the people. {Ps.40:6 - “sacrifice and offering you do not want”. Sacrifices for and on behalf of the people.} 4 And no one takes this honor for their self {of being a priest for the people} but only when called by God, as Moses’ brother Aaron was.
🌙 P.M. Luke 2:1-7
1 - In those days Caesar Augustus sent out a decree that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to their own hometown. 4 So Joseph went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David. 5 He went to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger (feeding trough) because there was no room for them in the inn.
