2 Corinthians 1 15-24

12/18 ~ From New Testament Letters

πŸ•Š️ (In the Order Believed Written)

15 - Being sure of all this, I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have a second experience of grace. 16 I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and then on my way back, and then have you send me on my way to Judea. 17 Did I seem fickle and uncertain when I planned to do this? Do I say “yes, yes” and “no, no” at the same time? 18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been yes, and no. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom Silas, Timothy and I proclaimed among you, was not yes, and no, but in him it is always yes! 20 For - all the promises of God - find their yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee [arrabΓ³n - pledge, guarantee, down payment, deposit]. 23 As God as witness, it was to spare you, that I refrained from coming again to Corinth. 24 Not that we lord it over you and your faith, but we work with you - for your joy - that you may - stand firm - in faith.

ACTS 18 1-16

         WeekLy BooK oF Acts

1 - After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. 2 And there he met a Hebrew (a Jew) named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla. It was because Emperor Claudius had ordered all Hebrews/Jews out of Rome. So Paul went to see them, 3 and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade. 4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, trying to persuade both Jews and Greeks.

5 When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word (the message) testifying to the Jews that the Messiah was Jesus. 6 And when they opposed him, and threw insults at him, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I’m innocent. From now on I’m going to the Gentiles.” {‘Smaller’ scope crash and armageddon came in 70 CE. Israel as microcosm, all nations as full scope and macrocosm.} 7 And Paul left there and went to the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God. His house was next door to the synagogue. 8 Also Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, along with all his household. And many of the Corinthians listening to Paul believed and were baptized. 9 And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Don’t be afraid, but go on speaking and don’t be silent, 10 for I’m with you, and no one will attack to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.” 11 And Paul stayed a year and six months, teaching the word/message of God among them.

12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Hebrew leaders of the synagogue made a unified attack on Paul and brought him before the Roman tribunal, 13 saying, “This man is persuading people to worship God contrary to the law.” 14 But when Paul was about to speak in his defense, Gallio said, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or a vicious crime, I would have reason to accept your complaint! 15 But since it’s a matter of questions about words and names and your own laws, see to it yourselves! I refuse to be a judge of these things.” 16 And he sent them away from the tribunal.

1 Corinthians 12:1-7

11/26 ~ From New Testament Letters

πŸ•Š️ (In the Order Believed Written)

1 - Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I don’t want you to be uninformed. {After important scolding on daily matters, addresses them as brothers and sisters. Corinth was a huge city, very pagan in attitude and practices.} 2 You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols. However you were led. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of service, but the same Lord. 6 And there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

1 Corinthians 3 7-15

10/28 ~ From New Testament Letters

      (In the Order Believed Written)

          Paraphrased by Necessity

7 - So neither the person who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters are one, and each will receive wages according to their labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers, and you are God's field, and building.

10 According to the grace of God given to me (Paul) like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation (there in Corinth) and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how they build upon it, 11 for no one can use a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus, the Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one's work will become seen for what it is, for The Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. (The fire concurrent to when he “returns on a cloud” - at Mt.13:30 as Rev.16:13-16!) 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, they will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, they will suffer loss, though they themself will be saved, but as if through fire.
