17 - Later, as he set out and was walking along, a man ran up, knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit the enduring life?” [AiΓ³nios - ages long (life).] (There’s not really a word for ‘forever’ in the Greek.. or the Old Testament Hebrew. But logically, true Life, being God himself, is, of course, enduring life.)

18 And Jesus answered the man, “Why do you call me good! No one is good except God. 19 As you know the commandments,  ‘don’t murder, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t bear false witness, don’t defraud, and honor your father and mother.’” (And wouldn’t you know it, there were Pharisee laws on the books that allowed you to put money in trusts, supposedly for the temple, instead of benefitting your elderly parents.) 20 And the man exclaimed, “Teacher! I have kept all these from my youth!” 21 And Jesus, with affection said, “(I see that) You lack one thing! Go and sell all you have, and give to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.” 22 Saddened, the man went away sorrowful, for he had great wealth.

23 And Jesus told his disciples, “How difficult it is for those who have great possessions to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples were amazed and wondered. But Jesus explained, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy person to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were surprised. “Then who” they said, “can be saved?!” 27 Jesus said, “With man it’s impossible, but with God, everything is possible.”
