paraphrased ‘enter the story’
🕊️reading & study 🕊️
1 - Now the tax collectors (tax collectors for Imperial Rome.. so not very well liked) and notorious sinners {harlots, drunkards, etc. of the common people, higher ‘class’ people could hide being notorious} were drawing near to listen to him. 2 So the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and even eats with them!”
3 So he told them this parable, 4 “What one of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one, doesn’t leave the ninety-nine in the field, and go after the lost one until he finds it? 5 And when he’s found it, he rejoices and carries it home on his shoulder. 6 And when he’s home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I’ve found my lost sheep!’ 7 In the same way, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one rebel who turns, than over ninety-nine {so called} righteous ones. 8 Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one, doesn’t light a lamp, sweep the house and look diligently until she finds it? 9 And when she’s found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I’ve found the coin I lost.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner [hamartōlós - an adjective, derived from hamartánō - which in turn, is from hamartia - missing the mark, and nō - wide, so missing wide of the mark] who repents.” {Don’t forget, the Pharisees, as a group/party {in sheep’s clothing} were robbing widow’s houses..)
