paraphrased ‘enter the story’
🕊️reading & study 🕊️
25 - A large crowd as usual, was following Jesus as he went along. He turned and said, 26 “If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t love his own father and mother and husband or wife, children, brothers and sisters less - yes - and even their own life, less than me, they won’t be able to be my disciple.
27 Whoever doesn’t carry their own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, wanting to build a tower, won’t first sit down and count the cost, whether you have enough to finish it? 29 Otherwise, after you’ve laid a foundation but are not able to build on it, all who see will begin to mock, 30 saying, ‘Look! This one began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, won’t sit down and deliberate whether he’s able with ten thousand to meet the other who comes with twenty thousand? 32 And if he can’t, won’t he send a delegation to ask for terms of peace while the other is still a long way off? 33 So anyone who is not able to let loose of all they have, cannot be my disciple. (Can we be a believer, but not yet a disciple?) 34 “Salt is good. But if salt is no longer salty, of what benefit is it? 35 It’s then not good for the soil nor for the dung pile, but is thrown out. Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
