[Jesus continues.] 19 - “For in those days there shall be trouble such as has never been the like from the beginning of creation until now, and never shall be again. 20 And if the LORD doesn’t cut short the days {intervene} no person would be left alive.
But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he has shortened the days.” {In 70 CE (limited scope) survivors. At the culmination of history (full scope) the nations/world armies surrounding Jerusalem again, survivors. Otherwise who is gathered during Rev.20:7-10? Note: the three mentions of lake of fire are at huge fiery events. In these verses is the second mention.}
21 “And then {even then, barely before his coming} if someone says, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ don’t believe it. 22 For false Christs and false prophets will rise up and give signs [sémeion - sign, token, miracle; an indication, especially ceremonially or supernaturally] and wonders and portents, to deceive, if possible, the elect. 23 So be on guard, for I have told you {disciples} beforehand.”
