☀️ A.M. James 4:13-17
13 You who say, “Today or tomorrow we’ll go to such and such a city, spend a year, trade, make a profit”— 14 yet you don’t know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? You’re a mist that appears for a short time and then fades away! 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting isn’t good!
17 So whoever knows the right to do and fails to do it, for them it’s sin [hamartia - missing the mark]. {To know right, but choose differently is a missing of the mark๐ฏ. We’re a work in progress, but need to be in the right progression? Otherwise, why bother!?}
๐ P.M. LUKE 11:37-54
37 - While Jesus was still speaking, a Pharisee invited him to dine with him at his house, so he went in and reclined at table. 38 The Pharisee was surprised to see that he didn’t wash before the meal. (A Pharisee tradition of ritual washing.) 39 So Jesus said, “You Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and dish. Yet inside there’s greed and wickedness. 40 But didn’t he who made the outside, also make the inside? 41 If you give from within, then the outside is clean as well. 42 But woe to you Pharisees, you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but neglect justice and the love of God. But these you ought to do, without neglecting the rest.
43 Woe to you Pharisees, you love the best seats in the meeting places and greetings in the marketplace. 44 Woe to you, you’re like unmarked graves, which people walk over, without knowing.”
45 One of the scribes (lawyers) answered him, “Teacher, in saying these things you’re insulting us also.” 46 But he said, “Woe to you lawyers, you load people with burdens hard to bear, that you would never lift even a finger to bear.. 47 Woe to you, you build the tombs of the prophets, which your fathers killed. 48 So you are witnesses and you show yourself as consenting to the killings, and so you build their tombs. 49 As the wisdom of God has said, ‘I will send prophets and apostles. Some they’ll persecute and some they’ll kill.’ 50 And so the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, will be held against this generation {๐ค held against by whom..?} 51 Yes, I tell you, required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.
52 Woe to you scribes, you’ve taken away the key to knowledge. You don’t enter, and you block the way of those who are entering.”
53 And as he was leaving, the scribes and Pharisees began to pressure him, provoking him to speak about many things, 54 for they were trying to catch him in his words.
