09-16 - James 5 9-20 Luke 12 13-21

(An 8TH ‘DAY’ CU Studies Journal)

            ☀️ A.M. James 5:9-20

9 - Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, so you may not be judged. For behold! The Judge is {ever} standing at the door. {Reaping as we sow, getting back what it is we put out, is ever ready.}

     10 As an example of patience think of the prophets who spoke in the name of the LORD. 11 We consider as blessed, those who steadfastly endured. You’ve heard of the patience of Job.

     And you’ve seen the purpose of the LORD, how the LORD is compassionate and merciful.

     12 But above all/before all, my brethren, don’t take an oath, either by heaven or by earth or by anything else, just let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so you may not fall under condemnation.

     13 Is anyone among you suffering hardship? They should pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let them sing praises. 14 Is any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church [ekklésia - from ek - out, and kaleo - called, calling] who will come and pray, and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord {Jesus/Y’shua}. 15 For the prayer of faith, will save the one who’s sick, and the LORD will raise them up. {Death is the prognosis of imperfect/entropy, because God is Life and “is perfect” mt.5:48..} And if they have done any wrongs, there will be forgiveness. 16 Therefore, confess your sins {wrongs, flaws} to one another {be honest and real, not hypocritical - which word means “wearing a mask”}. And pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it wouldn’t rain, and for three years and six months it didn’t rain, (a 3.5). 18 Then he prayed again, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth bore fruit.

     19 My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you errs from the truth and someone brings them back, 20 know that whoever brings one back from their wandering, will save their souL from-death, and covers [kaluptó - covers, hides, veils, conceals (keeps private?)] a multitude of sins.

     {We confess our errors and flaws, but not another’s? ..James’ last words in this letter, pray for one another’s healing and overlook one another’s flaws..? Friendship between groups, denominations, etc will root out error faster than separation/segregation? Or gulp, accusation?/division.}

            🌙 P.M. LUKE 12:13-21

13 - Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher! Tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me!” 14 But Jesus said, “Who made me the judge or executor between you?” 15 And to the crowd, he said, “Be careful and on your guard against covetousness and envy. Life doesn’t consist in the abundance of possessions.”

     16 So he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced a great harvest, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? For I haven’t room to store my crops.’ 18 So he said to himself, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones! And so I shall store all my grain and goods.

     19 And I’ll say to myself, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years. Relax, eat, drink, and be merry.’ 20 But then God said to him, ‘Foolish one, this very night your life [psuche - soul, life, self, personhood, inner being] is required of you, and the things you’ve prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So are all they who lay up treasure for themselves, and are noT rich toward God.”
