09-07 - James 2 17-26 Luke10 1-12

Verses paraphrased due to ©‘s [ref] {thots}

(An 8TH ‘DAY’ CU Studies Journal)

            ☀️ A.M. James 2:17-26

17 - The thing is, faith alone, if it doesn’t have works {effects, results} is dead [nekros - dead, deceased, lacking life, from nekus - a corpse].

     18 What if someone says to me, “You have faith and I have works.” Then I will say, show me your faith apart from your works {changes, effects, doings, faithfulness and deeds} and I’ll show you the evidence of my faith, by my works {changes, effects, doings, faithfulness, deeds, behavior}.

     19 You believe in the one God, all well and good. But even the demons believe, and shudder! 20 Do you want proof that faith apart from works is useless [argos - idle, lazy, inactive, barren, slow]? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac? {He passed the test/was tempered.} 22 You see that faith was alive thus active [sunergeΓ³ - root of synergy - working together with; cooperates, assists] along with his works. And so, faith was completed by works.

     23 And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness” and God called him his friend.

     24 So you see how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone? 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? {Because she believed their message.} 26 For as the body apart from the spirit{/presence of Life} is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. {Fruit, effect. Faith, believing, knowing, occurs in the heart, and works its way outward. As a seed that actually sprouts, grows, and bears bud, flower and fruit. Needs ‘food’ and watering, 🍞🍷.}

            πŸŒ™ P.M. Luke10:1-12

1 - After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into all the towns where he was about to go. 2 And he told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray to the Lord of the harvest that he will send laborers into his harvest. 3 Go on your way, but know I’m sending you out as lambs, into the midst of wolves. 4 Don’t take a moneybag, or knapsack. No extra sandals, and don’t greet anyone on the way. 5 Whatever house you enter say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ 6 And if a person of peace is there, your peace will rest upon it. But if not, it will return to you. 7 Remain in that same house, eating and drinking what they set before you, for the laborer deserves their wages. Don’t go from house to house. 8 And whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what they provide. 9 Heal the sick, and tell them the kingdom of God has drawn near to them.

     10 But whenever you enter a town and they don’t receive you, go into the streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town clinging to our feet, we shake off. But know this, the kingdom of God drew near to you.’ 12 I tell you, it will be more tolerable [anΓ©xomai - from ana - up, completing a process, and exō - to have] {will be better during completion of the process} for Sodom on that {great/GWT) ‘day’ than it will be for that city.”
