25 - Great crowds were still accompanying him, and he turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not love his own father and mother and spouse and children and brothers and sisters less, yes, and even their own life, than me, they will not be able to be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear their own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, whether they have enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, after you’ve laid a foundation but are not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock, 30 saying, ‘This one began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he’s able with ten thousand to meet the other who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is still a long way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So anyone who doesn’t renounce [apotassó - to set apart, take leave of, withdraw from] (able to let loose of) all that they have cannot be my disciple. (Still a believer, but not yet a disciple?) 34 “Salt is good. But if salt loses its saltiness, how can it be restored? 35 It’s then of no use, either for the soil or for the manure pile. It’s thrown out. Whoever who has ears to hear, let them hear.”

~ 2 Thessalonians 1:1-12 ~
1 - Paul, Silas, and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus.
3 We are indebted always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is good, because your faith is abundantly growing, and the love of each of you for one another is increasing. 4 And so we boast about you in the churches of God! For your steadfastness and faith during all your persecutions and afflictions which you are patiently enduring. 5 This is evidence that you are worthy of the kingdom of God, or you wouldn’t be suffering because of it —6 and indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you (reaping as sowing) 7 and you yourselves will repose with us in the revelation/revealing of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with his mighty angels. 8 In flaming fire, giving vengeance upon those not knowing God and not obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 On that day they will suffer the penalty [diké - right as self-evident justice, the principle, a decision or its carrying out] of aionion (eonian) doom and ruin, away from the presence of the Lord, and the glory of his might (aionion)10 when he comes to be glorified in his followers, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony was believed. 11 To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and may complete every good and every work of faith in you, by HiS power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus.
