Today’s GospeL Verses ~ Mark 11:1-10

1 - Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2 saying to them, “Go into the nearby village, and as you enter it you’ll find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing that?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4 And they went and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing?” 6 So they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go.7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8 And many spread their cloaks and leafy branches from the fields on the road. 9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! 10 Blessed is *the coming kingdom* of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”

                ~ Galatians 2:11-21 ~

11 - But when Peter came to Antioch, I (Paul) had to challenge him. 12 For before certain men came from James (Jerusalem) he was eating with the Gentiles, but when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing what the circumcision party might think. 13 And then the rest of the Jews/Hebrews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray. 14 But when I saw their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you expect the Gentiles to live like Jews?” 15 For we ourselves are Jews by birth and not lawless. 16 Yet we know - that a person is not JUSTIFIED by following the law - but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we Hebrews, also have believed in Christ, as the means to be justified [dikaioó - quote - “from dikē - right, approved, especially in a legal, authoritative and judicial sense; to show what is right, i.e. conformed to a proper standard, upright; the believer is made righteous/justified (G1344 /dikaióō) by the Lord, cleared of all charges.. Moreover, they are justified (1344 /dikaióō, "made right, righteous") by God's grace each time they receive (obey) faith (4102 /pístis), i.e. "God's inwrought persuasion" cf. the -oō ending which conveys "to bring to/out”] — (aha! It’s not only “all charges dropped” but right-ness is brought in and out of the (yielded) believer. Genuine Faith will bear Fruit. All of it) by faith. (The “new and living way”.) Because by works of the law no one will be justified. (Imperfect cannot make itself perfect.. 🗝️But God can, and will.) 17 But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be practicing sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a deliberate transgressor. 19 For through the law, I died to the law - so that - I might live to God. 20 What I mean of course, is I, the old me, has been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live. But Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not cancel out and frustrate the grace of God! For if righteousness is earned (and not a Gift) then Christ died in vain!

 A paraphrased study

1 - The apostles and brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party (Hebrew believers) criticized him, saying, 3 “You went to the uncircumcised and ate with them!” [Israel was strictly separated from others, in order to birth Messiah, the “savior of the world” into a comparatively prepared nation.] 4 But Peter began to explain to them what had happened, 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance [ekstasis - a displacement of the mind, state of ecstasy] and I saw a vision. There was something like a great sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners. It came down to me 6 and looking at it closely, I saw animals and beasts of prey, reptiles and birds of the air. 7 And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter, kill and eat.’ 8 But I said, ‘By no means, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth!’ 9 But the voice answered a second time from above saying, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’ 10 And this happened three times. And then “all” [hápas - from háma - all together, and pás - each, every – thus each and every one as a comprehensive unit] was drawn up again into heaven. 11 And look! At that very moment three men arrived at the house, who were sent to me from Caesarea. 12 And the Spirit told me to go with them. And to ask no questions and make no distinction. These six brothers as well, accompanied me, and we entered the man's house. 13 And he told us how he had seen the angel coming into his house and the angel said, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. 14 He will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ [This was now the “good news for all” beginning to earnestly go out to the nations, called gentiles/non-hebrew.] 15 And even as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit(/Presence of God) fell upon them. Just as it had upon us at the beginning [Acts 2]. 16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 So then, if God gave the same gift to them, as he gave to us - when we believed in the Lord Jesus - who was I that I should stand in God's way?!” [An answer to the I.O./Israel only doctrine.] 18 When the brothers heard these things they fell silent, and they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also, God has granted repentance that leads to Life.”

     19 Now in those days, those who were scattered because of the persecution that had risen after Stephen’s stoning, had traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the message to no one except to Jews/Hebrews. 20 But there were some, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who upon coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists (Greeks) also, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord. 22 The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, so they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

     23 When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was happy, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose. 24 For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. 25 So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul/Paul. 26 and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church (the believers) and taught a great many people. And it was in Antioch that the followers [mathétés - learners, disciples, pupils] were first called Christians.

     27 It was at about this time, that prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the civilized world (and the famine took place in the days of Claudius). 29 So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the believers living in Judea. 30 And they did so, sending it to the elders there by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

Why have you come?” 22 And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion (Roman soldier or general) an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you and have you come to his house in order to hear what you have to say.

     23 So he invited them in to be his guests, and the next day he, and some brothers from Joppa, went with them. 24 And on the following day they arrived at Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and he had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet so as to worship him. 26 But Peter lifting him back up, said, “Stand up, I am but a man like yourself.” 27 And as he talked with him, he went in and found those Cornelius had gathered. 28 And said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation (separated for the sake of birthing Messiah, the “savior of the world” from death and its cause). But God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean. 29 So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you have sent for me.”

     30 And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing! 3 And he said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God. 32 Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, who lives by the sea.’ 33 So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all which you have been commanded by the Lord.”

21 - And all who heard Saul/Paul were amazed and said, “Isn’t this the man who made havoc in Jerusalem of those who called upon the name of Jesus? And didn’t he come here to arrest and bring them in chains before the chief priests?” 22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and put to confusion the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus was the Christ.

     23 When many days had passed, the leaders plotted to kill him, 24 but their plot became known to him. They were watching the gates day and night in order to kill him, 25 but his disciples took him by night and lowered him in a basket, through an opening in the wall.

     26 Then when he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples. But they were afraid of him, and didn’t believe he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and explained to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. 28 So then he went in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 And he spoke and disputed against the Hellenists (Greek culture Hebrews). But they were seeking to kill him. 30 And when the brothers learned this, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him to Tarsus.

     31 So the church/faith throughout all Judea, Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the reverence of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, the faith was multiplying.

     32 Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he went down also to the believers who lived at Lydda. 33 And there he came across a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Rise and take up your bed.” And immediately he rose. 35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him as healed, and they turned to the Lord.

     36 And there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She had done many good works and acts of charity. 37 And in those days she became ill and died, and when they had prepared her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay.” 39 So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood there weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all out, and then he knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes. When she saw Peter she sat up, 41 and he took her by the hand and helped her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her to them alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner who lived by the sea.

27 - And Jesus traveled on with his disciples, walking to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And while on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?” 28 And they told him, “Some say John the Baptist, others say, Elijah, or one of the prophets.” 29 And he asked, “And who do you say I am?” Peter answered saying, “You are the Christ!” 30 And he told them by no means to tell any one about him.

     31 He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the leaders, the chief priests and scribes, and he would be killed, and after three days rise. 32 And he said it plainly. So Peter took him aside and said, “Don’t talk like that!”. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples listening, he said to Peter, “Get behind me, adversary! For you are not seeing as God does, but your thinking is upon the way man sees things.”

Lest we cringe over this next, we should consider that one’s being gone (hades-not seen, state of being gone, until resurrection) from this present life and age, is not the same from God’s view as ours.

     1 - But a certain man, Ananias and his wife Sapphira, sold a property, 2 and decided to keep back some of the price, and tell the apostles a different price. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why did the adversary fill your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit? 4 It was your property, you could do with it as you wanted, and after you sold it, the price was yours to do with as you pleased. So why did you purpose in your heart to lie, not to us, but to God?” 5 After hearing this, suddenly Ananias fell down dead, and great fear came upon all who heard about it. 6 Some of the younger men wrapped him in burial cloths and carried him out.

     7 And about three hours later, his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in, 8 and Peter asked her if such and such was the price for their piece of land, and she answered that it was. 9 Then Peter said, “I can’t believe your husband and you thought to tempt the Spirit of the LORD (of Truth and Life). Those who have buried your husband have just returned and they will carry you out too.” 10 And sure enough she fell down right then and the men did for her as they had for Ananias, and they buried her by him. 11 The Jerusalem believers became very sober minded, and fear came upon all who heard of it. 12 Meanwhile, many healings and wonders were happening through the apostles. And the believers were of one mind and united in purpose, and meeting in the porch of Solomon daily. 13 And no one dared join them except the truly believing, though they were respected and regarded as friendly by the people. 14 Many more, both men and women, were becoming believers. 15 And the people would bring the ailing where they could upon mats and couches, hoping for Peter to come along, for it was said even his shadow would bring healing. 16 People were also coming in from regions and cities outside of Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those harassed by unclean spirits, and they were all healed. (I think it will be like this, only greater, after the “second resurrection” during GWT judgment ‘day’ [aion, Jn.7:37; in Mt.25:46 called - “kolasin aionion” / korrection eonian] / an age oF correction, noT ‘eternal/neverending punishment’ which of course defies aLL logic-root word logos.)

GospeL Verses ~ Mt.26:58-75; Jn.18:15-27

(Jesus was arrested and led away.) 58 - Peter was following at a distance, and he went inside the courtyard of the high priest and sat with the guards to see what would happen. 59 The leaders, the chief priests and the whole council were looking for some false testimony against Jesus so they could have him put to death. 60 But there was none, though many false witnesses came forward. Then at last two came forward 61 and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and then rebuild it in three days.’” 62 The high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Have you no answer!? What is it that these men testify against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said, “Under oath to the living God, tell us if you are the Christ! The Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “It’s you who has said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 The high priest tore his robes and said, “He has uttered blasphemy! What further witnesses do we need? You heard it! 66 What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves to die.” 67 Then they spit in his face and hit him. And some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, oh you Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

     69 Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I don’t know what you mean.” 71 And when he went out to the gate, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the people standing there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 And again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man!” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for you talk like one from Galilee.” 74 Then he swore and said, “I do not know the man!” And right then the rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered what Jesus had said, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

     John 18:15-27

15 - Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple (John, who wrote this.) Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, 16 but Peter stood outside at the gate. The other disciple spoke to the servant girl who kept watch at the gate, and brought Peter in. 17 The servant girl said to Peter, “Were you one of this man's disciples?” He said, “No, I’m not”. 18 The servants and officers had made a charcoal fire because it was cold, and they were standing around it warming themselves. And Peter was standing with them.

     19 The high priest was questioning Jesus about his disciples and his teachings. 20 Jesus answered, “I have been speaking openly to the world. I’ve always taught in the synagogues and in the temple, where the people come together. I’ve said nothing in secret. 21 Why ask me? Ask those who’ve heard me. They know what I said.” 22 When he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If what I said is wrong, tell me the wrong, but if what I said is true, why do you strike me?” 24 Annas then sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.

     25 Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not.” 26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?” 27 Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed.

                ~ 2 Peter 2:18-3:7 ~

18 - Arrogantly speaking loud and foolish boasts, they entice sensually, 19 promising freedom, but they themselves are slaves to corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that they are a slave! 20 Now if, after having escaped the defilements of the world through the knowing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, their last state will become worse than the first! 21 It would be better if they had never known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back. 22 What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to his vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

     3:1 - This is now the second letter that I’ve written to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the prophecies of the prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through the apostles, 3 knowing this, that there will be scoffers in the last days scoffing, and following their own sinful ways. 4 They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they have from the beginning.” 5 They deliberately overlook that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 And it’s by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7 But by that same word, the heavens and earth that now exist, is storing up fire, that is being kept until the day of judgment and the destruction of godlessness. For it’s written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 32 But after I’m raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 33 Peter answered, “Though all fall away, I will never fall away!” 34 Jesus said, “Truly, I tell you Peter, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

     36 When they were at a place called Gethsemane, he said, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” 37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death, stay here, and watch with me.” 39 And going a little further he fell upon his face and prayed, “My Father if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 And again, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, let your will be done.” 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 Leaving them again, he prayed for the third time, saying the same thing. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said, “Sleep and take your rest.                 ~ 2 Peter 2:1-7 ~

1 - Now remember, how false prophets [pseudoprophétés] arose among the people. There will be false teachers [pseudodidaskalos] also among you. (Translators ever choosing the most harsh interpretations, changing “all” to “all things”, changing words, putting an ancient pre-biblical and cruel myth into the message of God.) They will secretly bring in ruinous heresies. And will even deny the master who bought them [agorázō - the marketplace, stresses transfer]. And so bringing upon theirselves impending loss and ruin. 2 And many will follow after their lawlessness and self seeking, and will cause the way of truth to be slandered [blasphēmos - from blax - sluggish, slow, and phḗmē - reputation, fame – properly, refusing to acknowledge good/worthy of respect]. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with fabricated words, for whom the judgment, from long ago, is not idle, and the ruin of them is not asleep. 4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but in chains - of darkness - cast them into “tartarus” [deepest darkness, and a Greek mythical place] being kept for judgment. 5 If he didn’t spare the ancient world, except eight, including Noah, a preacher of righteousness (preaching via “the Spirit while the ark was being built” 1Pet.3:19) when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly. (Death to God is not what it is to us. God sees all of time at once. And death is his taking out and transplanting elsewhere. There’s the two sections of his garden and harvest. The overgrown with weeds, at times fully overgrown, a choked to death garden.. the little plants.. trampled. .. Pull out the bramble weeds.. make them to be as seed, plant them in the soil of the other section of newly turned soil. All the seeds.. Waiting.) 6 And as the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, bringing them to ashes and ruin, which serve as an example of what is coming upon the world of ungodliness, 7 wherein he rescued righteous Lot (on the same day) who was greatly distressed by the lawless conduct of wickedness.

Peter is speaking to a crowd in Jerusalem on Pentecost, seven weeks after Jesus’ death, resurrection and ascension. 22 -  “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man having been sent by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus was delivered up according to the determined plan and foreknowledge of God, and was crucified and killed by lawless men. 24 But God raised him up, loosing the hold of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David said concerning him (David, quoting by inspiration, Christ to God), ‘I saw the LORD always with me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken. 26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, my tongue was filled with joy! 1 - As  the Feast [heorté - feast, festival] of the Passover was approaching, when Jesus knew the hour to depart out of the world, to the Father had come, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2 And during supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, 3 Jesus, knowing the Father had put all things in his hands, and that he had come from God, and was going back to God, 4 rose from supper, laid aside his outer garment, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and washed the disciples' feet and wiped them with the towel. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said, “Lord! do you wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered, “What I’m doing you don’t understand now, but afterward you will.” 8 Peter said, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered, “If I don’t wash you, you have no part with me.” 9 Simon Peter then said, “Lord, not my feet only! 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. 59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’” 62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

     64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”

     “He is worthy of death,” they answered. 67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

     69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.

     70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said. 71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!” 73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”

     74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

             John 18:15-27

15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in.

     17 “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter. He replied, “I am not.” 18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.

      19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. 20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.” 22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.

     23 “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?” 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.

     25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still outside warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?”

He denied it, saying, “I am not.” 26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

           ~ 2 Peter 2:18-3:7 ~

18 They utter arrogant and pompous words of emptiness, and they beguile and lure back into waywardness those who have barely escaped from deception and delusion. 19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. 20 For if when they have fled the corruptions of the world by the teaching of our Lord and our Savior, Jesus Christ, if they are again entangled in these things, they are overcome again and they are worse off than before. 21 It would have been better for them never to have known the way of life that God approves of, than to know it and turn their backs on the sacred life God gives. 22 Then this proverb has come true “the dog is returned to his vomit, and a pig that has been washed will roll in the mud."

     3:1 Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 2 To remember what was spoken by the prophets, and what was instructed by your Lord and savior through the apostles. 3 Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own crooked ways [epithymía - cravings]. 4 They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.” [Or, another version - and say, "Didn't your Lord promise to come back? Yet the first leaders have already died, and the world hasn't changed a bit."]

     5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. (When “every thought” thus act “was only evil”.😳) 7 But now the heavens and the Earth by the same (creative) word are being stored and kept for fire unto the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly [anthropos] mankind. (By His very letting things run their course. His options ? Total Ant Farm or Total Herd Immunity? - Mankind will no longer be unGodly, no corruption/suffering/dis-ease anywhere. “All things new”.)
