13 - You’ve heard of my (Paul’s) former life, how I violently persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. 14 How I was advancing in Judaism faster than many my age, as I was very zealous for the traditions of the fathers. 15 But then, he who had set me apart before I was born, called me by his grace, 16 and was pleased to reveal and make known his Son in me. This is so I might preach him among the nations.

     I didn’t right away consult with anyone, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me. Instead I went away into Arabia, and later returned again to Damascus. {Damascus is where he was headed when the Lord stopped him and called and claimed him, then Paul proclaimed God’s message right away, and was with the Damascus believers, until a threat on his life. Then he went to Arabia, perhaps Sinai. Acts, written by Luke who met Paul later, left out the time in Arabia and back to Damascus, Acts 9:18-25.}

     18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas (Peter) and remained with him fifteen days. 19 But I saw none of the other apostles, except James the Lord's brother. (And writer of the letter with his name.)

(Now thAt’s enthusiasm, I’m totaLLy convinced, his so brief first advent is a small replica of his long second advent!) 34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion, because they were like sheep with no shepherd. And so he taught them many things. 35 And when it grew late, his disciples came and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is late. 36 Should we send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages to find food?” 37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” So they said, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread?” 38 And he said, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they came back and said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 Then he told them all to sit down in groups on the grass. 40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and fifties. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, said a blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples to hand out to the people. And he divided also the two fish among them all.

     42 And they were all satisfied. (Ultimately all of us, with what he teaches us and feeds us. His sheep.) 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of leftover pieces of bread and fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were about five thousand.

     45 Then he had his disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he stayed and sent the people on their ways home.

12 - In those days Jesus went to the mountain to pray, and continued in prayer all night. 13 When day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve, whom he named apostles - 14 Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; 15 Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot; 16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

     17 And he came down and stood on a flat place with them, and with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those troubled with oppressive spirits were cured. 19 And all the people sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.

     20 And he looked out upon the crowd, and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you, insult you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice at those times, and leap for joy. For behold, your reward is great in heaven. And so was it done to the prophets.

     24 But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your solace. 25 Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh {in supposed victory} now, for you shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you, when all people speak well of you. For so they did to the false prophets. 27 But I say to you who hear - Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. 28 Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who abuse you. 29 If someone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other as well. And from one who takes away your cloak don’t withhold your tunic. 30 Give to everyone who asks from you, and from one who takes away your goods, don’t demand them back.”

That is, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. 14 That we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by waves and different winds of doctrine. Or by human schemes of craftiness, 15 but speaking the truth in love, will bring increase, in every way, into Christ, who is the head of us, the body of believers. 16 From him the whole body, is joined and fitted together by every joint with which it’s equipped, so that when each part is working properly, the body grows, building itself up in love.

9 -  For I (Paul) am the least of the apostles. Actually unworthy to be called an apostle! Because I persecuted the church/believers of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than anyone, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 So whether then it was I or they, so we preach [kérussó - proclaim, preach, herald] and so you believed.

     12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is useless and your faith is empty. 15 And so we are even found to be lying about God, because we testified about him, that he raised Christ, when if the dead are not raised, then Christ did not rise. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is without value, and you are still in your sins [hamartia - missing the mark/imperfection-entropy]. {The worm that doesn’t quit - life as we presently know it as a ‘parable’ of the decomposing apple, and its worm, the decomposing, that does not quit. Entropy, this slow burning gehenna crucible and sieve that separates the chaff from off the wheat, which continues until one of TWO vivifications - 1Thes.4:16-17, or Rev.21:5, 1Cor.15:24-28. The dis-ease as - part - of the cure, and immunity!?}

They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading ones among the believers, 23 along with the following letter: “The believers, the apostles and the elders of Jerusalem, to the believers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia, greetings. 24 We have heard that some went to you from us and have troubled you with their words - unsettling your minds - although we gave them no such instructions. 25 It has seemed good to us, having come to an agreement about the matter, to choose men and send them to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will tell you the same things as this letter. 28 It has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: 29 that you abstain from those things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality.      30 And when they were sent on their way, they went down to Antioch, gathered the congregation together, and delivered the letter. 31 And after it was read, they rejoiced at its encouragement. 32 And Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, encouraged and strengthened the believers with many words. 33 And after they had spent some time, they were sent off in peace back to those who had sent them. 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

     36 And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s go back and visit the believers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they’re doing.” 37 Now Barnabas wanted to take with them John Mark. 38 But Paul disagreed because he had turned back from the work the last time. 39 And they disagreed so sharply that they separated. Barnabas went with Mark, sailing away to Cyprus, 40 and Paul went with Silas, having been prayed for by the church and given over to the grace of the Lord. 41 Then he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches/believers. (As of yet there were no brick and mortar churches, the believers met mostly in one another’s homes.)

And because of his faith, though he died, yet still he speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he wasn’t found, because God had taken him. (No idols of his bones.) 13 - That same day [resurrection day] two of them were walking to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.14 And they were talking about all that had happened. 15 And while they were walking along and talking these things over, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing who he was. 17 And he said to them, “What is this that you’re discussing so seriously as you walk?” And they stopped, and with long faces answered him, 18 one of them, named Cleopas saying, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem [for Spring Holy Days/Week] who hasn’t heard of the things that have been happening there?” 19 And he said, “What things?” And they said, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth! He was a prophet before God and the people, mighty in deed and words, 20 but our leaders, the chief priests delivered him up to be condemned to death, and he was crucified. 21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel! And besides all that, it’s now the third day since it happened, 22 and some of the women of our company have amazed us. For they were at the tomb early this morning, 23 and when they didn’t find him there, they came back saying that they had seen a vision of angels. And the angels had said he is alive. 24 Then some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said.”

     25 And Jesus said, “O thoughtless ones! Slow of heart to believe all the prophets have spoken. 26 Was it not necessary the Christ should suffer these things before entering into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he told them all the things written about him in the scriptures.

     28 And as they drew near to the village to which they were going he walked on as if he were going further, 29 but they urged him, “Stay with us! For it is toward evening and the day is about over.” So he went on with them.

1 - In the first book, O Theophilus, I (Luke) have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up, having given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles which he had chosen. [Luke is a Greek doctor who met Paul during Paul’s travels. Like the gospel account he wrote, some in this book must have been compiled by interviewing people who were involved or witnesses. Luke traveled some with Paul, evidenced by where he uses the word “we”.]

     3 Jesus, by many proofs, presented himself alive after his suffering, having appeared to them for forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God to them. 4 And while he was still there, he told them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father. “The promise you heard from me” he said, 5 “for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit (with God’s veRy Presence!) a few days from now.” 6 And they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”7 He answered them, “It’s not for you to know the times and seasons that the Father has fixed by his own counsel. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit(/Presence of God with you) has come upon you, and then you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in (neighboring) Samaria, and to the very ends of earth.” 9 And when he had said these things, they saw him lifted up. And a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 Then while they were gazing into heaven watching as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white (aka, radiant?) robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you, will come in the same way as you saw him go up.”

     12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. 13 And they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. 14 They were spending their time in prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

     15 And during those days Peter stood up among the brothers (the whole company of persons was in all about 120) and said,16 “Brothers, the Scripture was fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by (king) David concerning Judas, who is the one who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.17 For he was numbered among us and was allotted his part in this ministry.”18 (This following insert by Luke is one way it was remembered and thought of by the time of this writing, which was some time later. Paul writes it as occurring differently.) — Now this man [Judas] acquired a field with the reward (coins) of his wickedness, and then fell upon a sword and 19 all Jerusalem heard of it, and so in their language they named the field Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood — 20 “For it is written” Peter continued, “in the Book of Psalms, ‘May his place (seat, office) become desolate, and let there be no one to dwell in it’ and ‘Let another take his place.’ 21 So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time when the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up - one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.” 23 And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed, saying, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen 25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” [Topos - place, region, seat, part] (his part to play..) 26 And then they cast lots, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. (“Chosen” anybody chosen is by a lucky shake of the heavenly dice! It is not according to any sort of worth. He simply decided for his purposes to call/wake up some now, and the many more later - Lev.23:23-36.)

No one is good, except God. 20 You know the commandments, 'Be faithful in marriage. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Respect your father and mother.'" 21 The man replied, “All these I have kept since I was a boy”. 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 23 When the man heard this he became very sad, for he was very wealthy. 24 When Jesus saw this, he said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” 27 But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” 28 Then Peter said, "We've left everything to follow you." 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 who shall not receive even more in this time--and in the age that is coming, eternal life."

     31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man (manchild of Rev.12) will be fulfilled. 32 He will be handed over to the Romans (“the nations”) and will be mocked, beat and spit upon. 33 They will flog him and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.” 34 But they didn’t understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

Holy Ghost Baptism

Acts 1:1-4

1 Theophilus, I first wrote to you about all that Jesus did and taught from the very first ² until he was taken up to heaven. But before he was taken up, he gave orders to the apostles who he had chosen with the help of the Holy Spirit.

³ For forty days after Jesus had suffered and died, he proved in many ways that he had been raised from death. He appeared to his apostles and spoke to them about God’s kingdom. ⁴ While he was still with them, he said: (basically) "..the Father will give you the gift and baptism of the Holy Ghost/Spirit.." A cornerstone of God's work and kingdom (which is ultimate reality) and a greatest miracle of all!
