MARK 1 1-8

 a paraphrased ‘enter the story’

 ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ•Š️reading & study ๐Ÿ•Š️๐Ÿƒ

     06/30 - GospeL Verses

(Mark was not a disciple, he may have seen and heard Jesus at a young age? He became helper and secretary to Paul and others, and traveled some with Paul and company. His gospel account is thought to be the earliest and some of it by interview.) 1 - The beginning of the gospel [euaggelion - a good message, good news] of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. {The entire message/written logos aNd logos personified.} 2 As it’s written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before you, who will prepare your way. 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the LORD, make his paths straight,’” 4 John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, and confessing their sins [hamartia - missing the mark]. {Being baptized agrees to/confesses we are flawed and have missed the mark of perfection. It’s not that God has so terribly high and impossible a standard - which we cannot currently fulfill, but God iS life, and, he “is Perfect” Mt.5:48, so imperfect is entropy which “does not quit” aka fading away, which matures and results in gone, not seen, death. But no option to stray in Eden and creation would have to be only an Ant Farm, so “God is savior of all” - 1Tim.4:10.}

6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I! The strap of whose sandals I’m not worthy to bend down and untie. 8 I have baptized you with water. But he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit{/Presence of God}.

     06/29 - GospeL Verses

1 - In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod [Antipas, son of Herod the Great] being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 2 during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance, for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord! Make his paths straight! 5 For every valley will be filled! And every mountain and hill will be made low! The crooked shall become straight! The rough places shall become level, 6 and all will see the salvation of God!’”

MATTHEW 21 23-32

     04/15 - GospeL Verses

23 - When he entered the temple (on the morning of the fig tree withering) the leaders - the chief priests and elders of the people - came up to him as he was teaching, and said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?” 24 Jesus answered, “I also will ask you a question, and if you tell me the answer, then I’ll tell you by what authority I’m doing these things. 25 The baptism of John, was it from heaven or from man?”

They discussed it among theirselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he’ll say to us, ‘Why then didn’t you believe?’ 26 But if we say, ‘From man,’ we’re afraid of the crowd here, for they all hold that John was a prophet.” 27 So they answered, “We don’t know.” And he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

28 What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in my vineyard today.’ 29 And he answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went. 30 And he went to the other son and said the same. And that son answered, ‘I’ll go,’ but he didn’t go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They answered him, “The first.” Jesus said, “Truly, I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God before you! 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed. And even when you saw that, you still didn’t change your minds and believe.”

Romans 6 8-16

02/02 ~ From New Testament Letters

๐Ÿ•Š️ (In the Order Believed Written)

         Paul’s Letter To The Romans

8 - Now if we have died with Christ (in baptism, the old self died) then we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, never dies again. Death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died, he died to sin - once for all - and the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also, consider yourselves dead to sin, and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12 Therefore don’t let sin reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Don’t use your body to sin, but present yourself to God as one who has been brought from death to life, and your body to God as an instrument for righteousness. 14 For sin shall have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

     15 What then? Are we to sin because we’re not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, whether slaves to sin [hamartia - missing the mark”] {entropy} which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? {Rightness, life. God is Life, and “is Perfect”. So imperfect is entropy the worm and fire/slow gehenna crucible, that doesn’t quit/reverse. Also imperfect is an abyss of potential.. But! “Perfect” means the ‘end’ of all this can only be the best one possible.}

Today’s GospeL Verses ~ Mark 11:27-33

27 - And they went again into Jerusalem. And as Jesus was walking in the temple, the chief priests, scribes and elders (leaders, authorities) came to him, 28 and they asked him, “By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority to do them?” [He was teaching the people and he had kicked out those buying and selling in the temple yard and court. And had overturned their tables.] 29 Jesus answered, “I will ask you a question, and if you can answer it, I’ll tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was the baptism of John from heaven or was it from man?”31 And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he’ll say, ‘Why then didn’t you believe him?’ 32 But can we say, ‘From man’?” For they were afraid of the people, who all held that John was a prophet. 33 So they answered, “We don’t know.” And Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

                ~ Galatians 3:22-29 ~

22 - The Scripture has imprisoned all under sin, so the promise by faith in Jesus might be given to those who believe.

23 Before faith came, we were under the law, held in custody (under lock and key) until the coming faith would be revealed. 24 So then, the law was our guardian (and tutor) [paidagรณgos - a trainer, tutor] until Christ came. This is so we might be justified by faith. 25 And now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26 for in Christ Jesus all are sons and daughters of God, through faith. 27 And when you were baptized, it was a putting on of Christ, like putting on new clothing. 28 And therefor there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female. Instead you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, and you are heirs according to PROMISE.

แ—ทเซฆเซฆา› ๏ลฆ เธ„ฯ‚tเธฃ - 2:22-41

[Peter is addressing a crowd in Jerusalem on the Pentecost following Jesus’ death and resurrection which the disciples/apostles and others witnessed.]

22 - “Fellow Israelites, listen to this. Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge. And you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.” (Another version - “But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged plan was carried out..” ๐Ÿค”?God knew that sending His representative to the world - a Light so bright, into the darkness - the darkness, the world was sure to kill him. So(!) God would use it to deliver all from Satan’s treacherous trickery - which God also foreknew, aNd, allowed. After all it’s noT a total ant farm that God is after!  But there does have to be total herd immunity! To all and any darkness. Parable of the decomposing apple and the worm that does noT quit! Prognosis of decomposition is? And it’s an abyss of potential, already PROVEN by history. “GOD has subjected all to disobedience(/corruption/decay) that He may have mercy upon all” Ro.11:32.)

24 “But God released him from the horror [รณdin - a birth pang, agony] of death and raised him back to life, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 King David said  concerning him, ‘I see that the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. 26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices. My body also will rest in hope, 27 because you will not abandon me to (the grave) sheol, you will not let your holy one see decay.” (Jesus most surely spoke Aramaic - sheol - Ecclesiastes 9:5,10 - “..the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing.. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in sheol, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” Ps.30:9 “..what profit is my death? Will the dust praise you?” Genesis 3:19 “..dust you are..”

We feel the presence of passed on loved ones because they come from another dimension called the future. And or an angel brings us remembrance.)

28 “You have made known to me the paths of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence.’ 29 Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to sheol, his body did not see decay. (No decomposition.) 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. (The believers had gathered, about 120.) 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit(/Presence of God) and has poured out what you now see and hear happening. 34 For David himself, never, ascended into heaven, yet he said, ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand 35 until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”’ [Cross Ref. - 1Cor.15:22-29, Rev.21:1-5] 36 Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do!” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins [of your hamartion - missing the mark(s)]. And you will receive the (great) gift of the Holy Spirit(/Presence of God). 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone, whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked [skolios: curved, winding, hence crooked] generation [genea - from ginomai - to come into being].” [“Make straight the way of the LORD!” was John the Baptist’s message.] 41 Those who believed were baptized, and about three thousand were added to the church [believers] that day.

                         ~*~

     Very Brief Outline of Acts:

Jesus returns to where he was with the Father before his advent/visit (his brief first one).

The Holy Spirit/Presence of God is poured out on the believers who were in Jerusalem on the late Spring holy day of Pentecost. Peter speaks, there are 3000 new believers that day.

The good news message spreads, Peter is invited and goes to a Roman’s house and all believe. The first record of non Hebrew believers (besides likely some on Pentecost).

Persecution breaks out.. jail. stoning. Pharisee Saul leads the persecution, but on his way to Damascus with papers for arrests, Jesus makes himself seen but is so bright Paul falls to the ground and is blinded. After two days he is healed and is a believer, and soon is called Paul. He wrote many (to most) of the New Testament letters, but spent a few years (it seems to me) exclusively listening to the Lord. He established many ‘churches’ in what’s called three missionary journeys, and met and worked with Mark and Luke, and quite a few others. (Luke wrote this Book of Acts.) His fourth journey is to Rome to trial as a prisoner. There’s a shipwreck on the way.. He wrote many of his letters while in prison and under ‘house’ arrest.

Pentecost

Pentecost (the day of) was the Opening, or beginning, of the Holy Spirit being poured out upon believers. A Greek Parallel New Testament I have says it like this, "and it will be in the last days, is saying the God, I shall pour out from the Spirit of me upon all flesh, and will prophesy the sons of you and the daughters of you..."
- These verses (surely?) Acts 2:17-21, prophesied by Joel (2:28-32) apply to every generation since that first outpouring in Jerusalem, at Pentecost. We know for sure, or so it's commonly accepted, that it fits the often occurring pattern of Bible prophecy, having an immediate escalation or peak, and a 'last' days peak. In this instance, the 'immediate' of what Joel prophesied, occurred forty nine days after the ascension of Jesus (as Peter claimed and was saying in Acts 2) and of what Jesus said when He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father, saying, "you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem.. ..and to the ends of the earth".

Some Remarkable Things

I'm watching a movie called "Acts" put out by "The Visual Bible". I bought it at a Goodwill store for $1.99, as you can see, a veRy good deal! It's word for word the Book of Acts from the New International Version. I was watching the part which was on the Day of Pentecost, forty nine days after Jesus rose. The day the Baptism of the Holy Spirit came.. And then Peter got up and was speaking to the crowd that had gathered, and said some remarkable things, being of course, that they had seen Jesus risen from the grave, had even felt that he was flesh and bone.. These same disciples of Jesus, all went on saying this for the rest of their lives, and then all but one (who went on to write the Book of Revelation in his old age) were executed for refusing to stop doing so. What are we to make of such behavior?!

Holy Ghost Baptism

Acts 1:1-4

Contemporary English Version (CEV)
Theophilus, I first wrote to you about all that Jesus did and taught from the very first until he was taken up to heaven. But before he was taken up, he gave orders to the apostles who he had chosen with the help of the Holy Spirit.
For forty days after Jesus had suffered and died, he proved in many ways that he had been raised from death. He appeared to his apostles and spoke to them about God’s kingdom. While he was still with them, he said: (basically) "..the Father will give you the gift and baptism of the Holy Ghost/Spirit.." A cornerstone of God's work and kingdom (which is ultimate reality) and a greatest miracle of all!
Acts 1:4,5 and 10:47
