GospeL Verses ~ Luke 9:18-27

18 - Jesus was alone praying and his disciples came along, and he asked them, “What do the people say about me?” 19  They answered, “Some say you are John the Baptist or Elijah or another long ago prophet who has been raised.”

     20  Jesus then asked, “And who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah sent from God!” 21 And he told them not to tell anyone,  22 and said, “The leaders will make the Son of Man suffer terribly. They reject him and they will kill him, but three days later he will rise.”

     23  Then Jesus said to everyone, “If you want to be my follower, you must reject your (old) self.” (Often/whenever possible, put our self on the back burner? The word also means to repudiate our old self-first self. To “follow after” Jesus. He prayed “Not my will (Father) but your will.” God after all has our BEST blueprint.) “You must take up your cross every day and follow after me. 24  If you want to save your life, you will only ruin it. But if you give up your life to me, you will save it. 25 What will you gain, if you should own all the world but ruin yourself or waste away your life?

     26 If you are ashamed of me and of my message, I will be ashamed of you when I come in my glory and in the glory of my Father and the holy angels. 27 You can be sure some of the people standing here will not die before they understand God's kingdom.”

17 - As we live in God, our love grows more perfect, and so shall we have confidence in (during) day of judgment. [Parrésia - confidence, freedom of speech, openness, from pas - all, and rhēsis - resolve, speech.] Because we now live as Christ did in this world. As he was, so are we. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love casts out all fear. The one fearing correction [kolasin, usually translated punishment, the more extreme interpretation] has not yet been perfected in love. (If we fear God, our love is lacking. Lacking toward others, or lacking toward Him!)
