 • Philemon 1:1-16  Matthew 18:21-35

            ☀️ Philemon 1:1-16

1 - Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother,

To Philemon our beloved fellow worker 2 and Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier, and the church that meets in your house:

3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father! And the Lord Jesus Christ! 4 I am always thankful to God for you and I remember you in my prayers. 5 For I hear of the faith you have toward the Lord Jesus, and your love for all the brothers and sisters. 6 I pray that the sharing of your faith may be effective, and full, having knowledge of every good thing that’s in us, for the sake of Christ. 7 For I have felt much joy and comfort because the hearts of the saints (believers) have been refreshed through you.

8 Yet also I’m asking a great favor of you. 9 I, Paul, now an old man and also a prisoner for Christ Jesus, 10 I appeal to you concerning Onesimus, who I became like a father to in my imprisonment.

11 Formerly he wasn’t much help to you, but now indeed he is helpful to you and to me. 12 I’m sending him back to you. But from my heart, 13 I would have been glad to keep him with me, in order that he might help me on your behalf during my imprisonment for the gospel. 14 But I wouldn’t want to do so without your consent, and only if it would be agreeable to you. 15 It might even be that’s why he was away, that you might have him back, but as a brother, forever! 16 No longer as indentured {a money or land borrowing system} but now as a beloved brother, especially to me. And how much more to you, both naturally and in the Lord..

            πŸŒ™ Matthew 18:21-35

21 - Then Peter came up and asked Jesus, “Lord, how many times, if my brother sins against me, should I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said, “I don’t say seven times, but seventy-seven times!

23 For the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wished to settle his accounts with his (bond) servants. 24 And when he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 And since he couldn’t pay, he ordered his indenture to be sold, with his wife and children and all he had, and payment to be made. 26 So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me! And I’ll pay you everything.’

27 And out of pity, the master of that servant released him and even forgave him the whole debt. 28 But later, that same servant went out, and when he saw one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, he seized him, and was throttling him, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 And his fellow servant {his neighbor/fellow person} fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I’ll pay you.’ 30 But he refused and went and had him put in prison until he should pay all the debt.

31 When his fellow servants saw it, they were greatly distressed, and reported it to the master/mister. 32 Then the master summoned the man and said, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had with you?’ 34 And in anger he was delivered to the jailers {cause and effects, trials} untiL he should pay all his debt. 35 So also from my heavenly Father will it be with each one of you, if you don’t genuinely forgive your brother or sister.”
