10-10 - Galatians 3 22-29

scriptures paraphrased to post

   ๐Ÿ•Š️a reading & study ๐Ÿ•Š️

22 - The Scripture has declared all under sin. [Greek, hamartia - “missing the mark” i.e. imperfection. “HE has subjected (sugkleiรณ - to shut up, enclose, confined) aLL to disobedience (apeitheia - disobedience, unbelief; from A "not" and peรญthล - persuaded) SO he may have mercy on all” Ro.11:32] And so - the promise - by faith in Jesus, might be given to those who believe.

23 Before faith came, we were under the law {like} held in custody, until the way of faith would be revealed. 24 So then, the law was our guardian [paidagรณgos - a trainer, tutor] until Christ came. This is so we might be justified by faith. 25 And now that faith has come, we are no longer under that guardian, 26 for in Christ Jesus we are sons and daughters of God through faith. 27 And when you were baptized, it represented a putting on of Christ, like putting on new clothing. 28 And therefor, in Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither nor male and female, but all are one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, and an heir according to the PROMISE.

     {Heir to what? To God’s Spirit/Presence, increasing so ultimately we shall be fully “like Jesus”. A full temple of God ..yet each unique, God calls his jewels, Mal.3:17. Heirs to “the kingdom”. All under sin/futility by first pair ‘falling’.. So it’s one and done, “all of heaven and all of earth” taking this unavoidable journey through this all important contrast all together at once. Other option? Ant Farm? ..Instead, total ‘herd’ immunity? To straying from God who iS Life and “is perfect” Mt.5:48. ..So imperfection is entropy.}

10-07 - Galatians 3 1-7

paraphrased ‘enter the story’

   ๐Ÿ•Š️reading & study ๐Ÿ•Š️

1 - Oh foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched [baskainรณ - to slander, hence by extension, to fascinate, bewitch, and overpower, from baskanos - to cast an evil spell, wishing injury upon someone, to bewitch. In classical Greek, Aristotle used baskaรญnล for "bewitching through the use of an evil power." That is, putting someone under a spell so they no longer could think (act) according to reason ..is also associated with envy ..slander (who has) bedazzled] you? It was before your eyes and public that Jesus Christ was crucified. 2 And let me ask you this! Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law? Or was it by hearing, with faith? By hearing, and believing what you heard. 3 And now are you so foolish?! Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by your own goodness and efforts? 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain? If indeed it was in vain? 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you, and works miracles among you, do so by works of the law? Or by hearing with faith? 6 Just as Abraham “believed God - and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

7 Know thiS then! It is those who are of faith, who are the children of Abraham.

Today’s GospeL Verses ~ Mark 12:35-44

35 - As Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that Messiah (Greek Christ) is the son of David? 36 When David, in the Holy Spirit, said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.’ 37 How can David call him Lord if he’s his son?” And the people were gladly listening to him.

38 And he said, “Be wary of the scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, be greeted in the marketplaces, 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at feasts, 40 yet they devour widows' houses, and as a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

41 Afterwards, he sat down opposite the treasury and was watching the people put money in the offering box. Many wealthy people put in large sums. 42 But then a poor widow came in who put in two small copper coins. 43 So he called his disciples to him and said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more money than anyone else. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”

From New Testament Letters

     (In the Order Believed Written)

                ~ Galatians 6:9-18 ~

9 - So let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we don’t give up. 10 As we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

11 See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. (Paul had developed an eye and sight problem or infection.) 12 It is those who want to show themselves off as making a good show who would force you to be circumcised. And this is only in order that they won’t be criticized for the cross of Christ. (Hebrew believers wanting friendship and approval from the world of their day and place.) 13 For even those who are circumcised don’t themselves keep the law, but they want to have you circumcised that they may boast in you. (Believers can be misled by wanting followers of theirselves.) 14 But I don’t want to boast in anything, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus, the Christ (christos - anointed one). By him I have been crucified to the world, and the world has been crucified to me. 15 For circumcision doesn’t matter, whether you are circumcised or not circumcised. What matters is being a new creation.16 And for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel (household) of God. 17 And from now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of serving Jesus.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you, brothers and sisters. Amen.

Humanity and creation will be sealed with God’s Spirit/Presence. This is logic, for is anything else possible? For surely(?) God is Life.

Beware The Rules

Galatians 5:1 says -
"..Christ has made us free! And do not be entangled again by a yoke of servitude".

This does not of course, mean a believer and follower of Jesus is free to live a dissolute life! As Paul wrote "God forbid!" and "those things lead to death, where's the attraction?"

That's why The Way is a "narrow way"! Because there's huge ditches on either side! One is the ditch of license. And the other is the ditch of "rules". Beware the rules!

The first churches were not as we have our churches now. They were brothers and sisters (in love with God and Jesus) getting together. And following the Spirit.

The first enemies - "love your enemies" - were the 'Judaizers'. They wanted Gentiles (non-Hebrew, not under the Law of Moses) believers to become Judean. If we read the Letter to the Galatians, or any other letter actually, but especially Galatians, it's obvious this was not the plan of God. [Also Acts chapter 15, of course.]

And we can see that spirit today. It's always been very active! You must do this, you must not do that. When The Way is a relationship. And the living upon God's Word and Spirit (bread and wine of life). "If you are led of the Spirit, you will not be doing the acts of the lower carnal character." You just won't. You are following and yearning after the Spirit and drinking of the Word of Life. That is The Way of transformation and 'self improvement' - though it is NO act of self.

When we seek to follow rules.. any rules, to be 'right with God', approved of by God.. we have stepped out of His plan. We are saying or trying to believe, that God will owe us acceptance, like wages. (On the Holy Day "you will do NO work!") It is a gift. It is His doing. It is a recognition and affirmation that HE, is the only source of good. (The only source of Life!) And this is "all given to us, freely, through Jesus".
"That the spirit in our heart cries 'abba, Father!' is the sign and seal and proof that we are His! His pledge that all that He has promised shall be given." And "He is faithful to carry out the good work which He has begun in us". ..."via the same POWER which rose Jesus from the grave."

The other - "any 'other' gospel" - has not that power. It's a dead end. It's a ditch.

It comes in many guises. The second 'enemies' of the gospel (news/good news) were the gnostics. They had a very large whole set of rules! They believed matter, the universe, was why mankind was flawed and the world was as it is. That somehow we (life) had 'fallen into matter' and this is what we needed to be saved from. The body was especially evil, and all its functions. Of course this led to other sects of the belief, which was license, for if all earthly functions were evil, like eating and drinking (and breathing? And don't forget, the bible says "honorable [is] the marriage in all, and the bed undefiled".) So if even walking was 'evil' then what the heck, why not just do anything and everything since it was the body itself that was guilty, lacked character, and hey, this must all be God's fault! And my special insight/knowledge/gnosis is what will set me free!

How crazy is that!? But it's the root and foundation of any "rules" system. And unlike the "freedom in Christ" it's a system of following humans and a human group. We get this from individuals and from organizations. It says 'believe in Jesus and.. ..and I'll tell you the special rule.. come and follow me..' And, or, be a part of my group..

I don't know why it works, but it seems to work very well.

Galatians 5:1 - "..Christ has made us free! ..do not be entangled again by a yoke of bondage".

Any personal conviction I may have.. be it vegetarian, or any rule I may choose to follow, is likely a wonderful thing.. but not mine to impose or even suggest to another. Paul - led of the Spirit to write a large bulk of the New Testament - said, "know only Christ".

Prophecies of Christ and Their Fulfillment

Prophecies of Christ and Their Fulfillment
This will be a work in progress. These (prophecies of Messiah) form a thread through the Bible.
Genesis 3:15 - Luke 22:53 (hour of darkness), Hebrews 2:14, 1 John 3:8
Genesis 12:3 - Acts 3:25-26, Gal 3:8 (all earth blessed through "the seed" Jesus)
