GospeL Verses ~ Luke 1:1-25 ~

[Luke was a Greek doctor who met Paul during his travels and then worked and traveled some with Paul.]

1 - Forasmuch as many have undertaken to gather together and write down the things that occurred, 2 which we heard from those who witnessed it all and heard the message, 3 it seemed good to me also, having researched and studied it all closely for some time now, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus. 4 And in this way, you may have certainty and confidence concerning the things that you have been taught. (Way more valuable than gold.)

5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah [of the called to be priests, tribe of Aaron]. He had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord. (The baptist born into those righteous and peaceful conditions, as was Jesus born into such conditions, shown by the actions and reactions of Joseph and of Mary. So many folks are confused over Israel. Armageddon/the world is against Israel of course considering who the “god of this world is” or who is acting as though he is god, HE created hell. Not physically, but in the psyche of mankind. But the gates of hell can never overcome “Christ Crucified” - that God and his Son who is God’s blueprint and seal - love and value us that much. Imperfect/strayed may earn death, but it has been “paid in full”. And we can enter the holy of holiest Presence of God — who is Life and Love. Warm, embracing love, for all healing and growth.)

7 But Zechariah and Elizabeth had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years. 8 Zechariah was serving as priest before God when his division was on duty, 9 and according to the custom of the priesthood, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn the incense. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense/prayer. 11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zechariah saw him, he was, of course, afraid. 13 But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah. Your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 You will have joy and gladness. Many will rejoice at his birth! 15 For he will do a great work before the Lord. He mustn’t drink wine or strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. 16 And He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God, 17 working before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just. To make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”

18 And Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife too is advanced in years.” 19 The angel answered, “I’m Gabriel, I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. 20 And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day that these things take place (lest he speak more doubt?) because you didn’t believe my words, which will be fulfilled in the allotted time.”

21 And the people were outside waiting for Zechariah, and wondering at his delay. 22 And when he came out, he was unable to speak, and they realized he had seen a vision while he was in the temple. He made signs to them but remained mute. 23 And when his time of service was ended, he went back home.

24 Soon after, his wife Elizabeth conceived, and for five months she kept herself in solitude, saying, 25 “Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked upon me, to vindicate me among the people.” (To take away the cultural dishonor of being barren.)

From New Testament Letters

     (In the Order Believed Written)

                ~ Hebrews 3:1-6 ~

1 - Therefore, holy brothers (adelphoi - of the same womb, so includes sisters) you who share the heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of what we proclaim. 2 He was faithful to He who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful. 3 But Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as the builder of a house has more honor than the house he builds. 4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. 5 Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, testifying to the things that were spoken later. 6 But Christ is faithful over God's house as a Son. And we are his house, if indeed we remain convinced, holding firmly our hope and expectation to the end.
