WeekLy BooK oF Acts 3 1-26

       a paraphrased study ⭐️

1 - Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. 2 And there was a man there who having been lame from birth was being carried, for they laid him daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask for alms from those entering the temple. 3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked them for alms. 4 And Peter looked over at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” 5 And so he looked, expecting to receive something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” 7 And he took hold of him, raising him up by the right hand, and immediately the man’s feet and ankles were made strong. 8 And leaping up, the man stood and began to walk. He entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
9 And the people saw him walking and praising God. 10 And they knew he was the one who sat daily at the Beautiful Gate asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had occurred. 11 And while he stayed close to Peter and John, more people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico which is called Solomon's. 12 And when Peter saw it he called for quiet and addressed the people - “People of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why stare at us? As though by our own goodness or power we have made him walk? 13 It is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers. He glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied  his release when Pilate, had wanted to release him. 14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be let loose to you. 15 And you cried out for the killing of the author (and) [archégos - founder, leader, prince, from arxḗ - the first, and ágō - to lead – properly, first in a long procession, pioneer] of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this - we - are witnesses! 16 And upon faith in the name of him, this man who you know and now see has been strengthened in his name [onoma - name, authority, cause] and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this complete soundness in the presence of you all. 17 And now, brothers, I know you acted in ignorance, as did our leaders. 18 But what God had foretold by all the prophets, that the Christ would suffer, he has fulfilled.19 Repent therefore. Turn so your sins [or flaws and imperfections - hamartia - to miss the mark (of perfection) translated sins, which includes wrong actions and deeds, even failures to act] may be blotted out, 20 and times of refreshing come from the presence of the LORD, that he may appoint you to Christ Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the time for the restoration of all, which God spoke by his holy prophets long ago. [Restoration - apokatastasis - reconstitution, from apokathistémi - restore, give back, re-establish, returning back to the (ultimate) ideal.] 22 Moses said, ‘The LORD God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen and hear all that he says. (So the word, follow. “Those who do My instructions are they who love Me.” Jn.14:21) 23 And it shall be that any soul who will not listen to that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ [The natural and unavoidable end result. But - Jesus “will draw all” - Jn.12:32] 24 And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, proclaimed all of this! 25 You are the sons (and daughters) of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with the fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall aLL the families of the earth be blessed.’ (Oh they sure will!) 26 And God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, blessing you by turning away each of you from the wrong ways [ponéros - toilsome, bad] of you [to bless you by turning you].”
