GospeL Verses ~ John 5:1-17

1 - Afterwards there was an annual feast of Judea, and so Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 And in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there’s a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, with five roofed colonnades. 3 In these, a number of blind, lame, and paralyzed people would lay. 5 One was a man who had been disabled for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him and knew he had been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The man answered, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water ripples, and while I’m going another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. It was a Sabbath, 10 and the leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It’s the Sabbath, and it’s not lawful for you to take up your bed!” 11 But the man answered, “The man who healed me told me to, take up my bed, and walk.” 12 So they asked him, “Who is this man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 But he didn’t know who it was, because Jesus had left for there had been a crowd there. 14 Later Jesus found him in the temple and said, “See, you are well! Sin [hamartanó - miss the mark, do wrong, sin] no more, so nothing worse comes upon you.” 15 The man left and went and informed the leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him. 16 And this is why they were persecuting Jesus, because he would do these things on the Sabbath. 17 But Jesus answered them saying, “My Father is working all this while. And so I too am working.”

From New Testament Letters

     (In the Order Believed Written)

                  ~ Romans 7:5-10 ~

5 - For while we were living undisciplined and worldly, wayward and self indulgent passions were actually aroused by the law, and at work in us bearing the fruit of death. 6 But now we are set at liberty from the law, because we have died to that which held us back and in bondage. And now we serve in the new (testament) way of the Spirit and not in the old (testament) way of the written code. (Some folks think this means we can be “lawless”😳. That the gospel sets us free to miss the mark. The root word of logic, is logos.) 7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? (That the law misses the mark?) Not at all! For if it had not been for the law, I would not have known what misses the mark. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “Don’t covet.” 8 But sin (hamartia, missing the mark, imperfection, this all important contrast) seizing an opportunity through the commandment! Produced in me all kinds of covetousness! Without law, we don’t know we miss the mark. 9 But when I saw the law (understood it) I saw my falling short, wrong doings, selfish motives, and wayward passions. 10 And the commandment that promised life, proved to be death to me! (A dagger! Key, verse six. The law pounds the gavel! But life in Christ declares us innocent and sets us upon the way of no longer missing the mark. You see, had the option to stray been missing from Eden ..what else would have had to be left out? All thinking and reasoning ability? For it includes at least some power of choice. Other side of the coin , as Life, God lives through all things that ever occur.)
