GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 15:1-20

1 - Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came from Jerusalem and asked Jesus, 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? By not washing their hands before they eat!” 3 Jesus answered, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother in death ends.’ 5 But you say that if someone declares what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’ 6 they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you contradict the word of God for the sake of your tradition! 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, 8 ‘They may honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship me in vain for their teachings are merely human rules.’”

10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not pollute them, but what comes out of their mouth, this is what pollutes them.” 12 Then the disciples came to him and said, “Do you know the Pharisees were offended by what you said?” 13 He answered, “Every plant my heavenly Father hasn’t planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them be, they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch.” 15 Peter said, “Explain what the parable means.” 16 “Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked. 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and this is what pollutes. 19 For out of the heart comes evil thoughts of hate and murder, adultery and immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what pollute a person. But eating with unwashed hands does not pollute.”

From New Testament Letters

     (In the Order Believed Written)

                  ~ Romans 12:10-21

10 - Love one another with true affection. And esteem and respect one another. 11 Don’t be lacking in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit in serving the Lord. 12 Rejoice in expectation [elpis - expectation, expectant hope], and be patient in tribulation, constant in prayer. 13 Share in the needs of one another and pursue love of strangers. 14 Bless those who persecute you. [DiΓ³kΓ³- to put to flight, pursue, by impl. to persecute (In Rev.12:13, imo, inquisition.)] Bless and don’t curse. 15 Be happy with those who are happy, and be sad with those who are sad. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Don’t be haughty and prideful. Be a friend to the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, and give thought to do what is best and honorable for all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with everyone. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath (cause and effect) of God, for it is written, “Vengeance [vindication, avenging, full retribution] is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” (For victims of great oppression, cruelty, genocide, someone stole, assaulted and murdered their child, etc. that is good news! Jesus “will draw ALL” but great evils must be faced. And surely there will be closure for all things and all victims will be healed and will forgive. Then after, and by, heart wrenching remorse, even the most cruel will also be healed.) 20 And so to the contrary, “if an enemy is hungry, feed them, if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. For your kindness will heap burning coals (of remorse, thus purification) on their head.” (A quote of Proverbs 25:21-22.) 21 Don’t be overcome by evil. But overcome evil with good.
