🍃🕊️ 03/16 - GospeL Verses 🕊️🍃
(paraphrased)
12 - Again Jesus said to the people, “I am the light of the world! Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but they will have the light of life.” 13 But the Pharisees said, “You’re bearing witness about yourself! And your testimony isn’t true!” 14 Jesus answered, “Even if I bear witness about myself, it’s a true witness. I know where I came from, and I know where I’m going. But you don’t know where I came from or where I’m going. 15 You judge according to human judgment. But I judge no one. 16 Yet even if I do judge, my judgment would be true, for it’s not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me.
17 In your Law it’s written that the testimony of two people is true. 18 I’m the one who bears witness about myself. And the Father who sent me bears witness of me.” 19 “Where is your Father?” they asked. Jesus answered, “You don’t know me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father as well.” 20 These words he spoke in the treasury, as he was teaching in the temple. But no one arrested him, because the hour had not yet come.
[The “treasury” - gazophulakion, from gaza and phulaké - is where the people would go — “In the Second Temple period, the treasury was an important part of the Temple complex, an area for worshippers to go to where they could give offerings and so contribute to the maintenance of the Temple and its services ..a symbol of the people's interest and support for the religious institution. The offerings were used for the upkeep of the Temple, support for the priests, aid for the poor..”]
