            ☀️ A.M. James 3:7-12

7 - Every kind of beast and bird, reptile and sea creature, can be tamed! And has been tamed. 8 But no one can tame the human tongue! {And today the typing finger?} It’s a restless evil. Full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father. And with it we curse people. People who are made in the likeness of God! 10 From the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brethren/brothers and sisters, this ought not to be! 11 Does a spring of water gush forth both fresh, living water, and salt water as well? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh (life giving) waters.

29 - But the lawyer/scribe, seeking to justify himself, said to Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” (As in “love thy neighbor”/fellow person.)

     30 Jesus answered him with a parable, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he was fallen upon by a band of thieves. They robbed him, even of his clothing! They beat him and then they left him for dead at the side of the road.

     31 A little later, by chance, a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 And likewise a Levite (administrative public servant) when he came to the place and saw him, he too passed by on the other side.

     33 But then a (looked down upon by ‘polite’ society) Samaritan, as he journeyed, came by, and when he saw him, he was concerned. 34 So he went to him. And he bound up his wounds, cleansing them with oil and wine. Then he set him upon his own animal and brought him to an inn. And there he further cared and provided for him. 35 Then the next day before continuing on his way, he gave the innkeeper two denarii, saying, ‘Take care of him, and if you spend more, I will repay you when I come back.’

     36 Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell among thieves?”

     37 The scribe said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.”

     38 Now as they walked on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a sister Mary, who was sitting at the Lord's feet listening to his teaching. 40 But Martha was busy with much serving. And she came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving? Tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. And Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be denied her.”

09-06 - James 2 9-16 Mark 10 35-45

            ☀️ A.M. James 2:9-16

9 - But if you show partiality, you commit [ergazomai - work, trade, do] sin [hamartia - miss the mark] and are shown by the law to be doing wrong. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of breaking it all. 11 The same God who told us to be faithful in marriage also told us not to murder. So if you’re faithful in marriage, but you murder someone, whichever, it doesn’t matter, you have broken God's Law. 12 So talk and act {with kindness and mercy} knowing we are also those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to one who shows no mercy. {It doesn’t say ‘forever’.} And mercy trumps [katakauchaomai - triumphs over] judgment.

     14 What good is it, my brethren, if someone says they have faith but has no works [ergon - work, behavior, task, labor, deed, action]? {Fruit?} Can such faith save? 15 It’s like a brother or sister being poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says, “Go in peace, be warm and fed,” without giving them the things needed, what good is that? [This writer (James) is one of Jesus’ natural brothers.]

            🌙 P.M. Mark 10:35-45

35 - James and John, the sons of Zebedee said to Jesus, “Teacher, we have a favor to ask of you.”

     {Zebedee, their father was a fisherman by trade. They, and Peter and Andrew worked for him, both teams having a boat(?) and workers. Jesus called John and James “the sons of thunder”.

     Mathew, the tax collector (for Rome!) who was one of the twelve disciples, wrote “the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons and she asked..” Mt.20:20.

     Whereas Mark was not one of the twelve (eyewitnesses/disciples). He was a scribe, so able read and write well, he became a sort of secretary for Paul and others. His gospel/news account may be the first one written of the four, of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.}

     36 Jesus asked them, “What is it you want?” 37 And they said, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, at your glory.”

     38 But Jesus said, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup I’ll drink? Or be baptized with the baptism I’m about to be baptized with?”

     39 And they said, “Yes! We’re able!”

Jesus answered, “The cup I drink you indeed will drink of, and the baptism I’m about to be baptized with, you will be baptized with.

     40 But to sit at my right or at my left isn’t mine to give, but is prepared for those prepared for/of it.”

     41 When the other ten disciples heard about it, they were indignant. 42 But Jesus called them all to him and said, “You know that those who’re considered rulers of the gentiles/nations, lord it over them, and their ‘great’ ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shouldn’t be so among you. For whoever would be great among you should be as a servant. 44 And whoever would be first among you must serve all. 45 For even the Son of Man didn’t come to be served, but to serve. And to give his life as a ransom for many [polýs - great in number and extent].”

     {God was against Israel having any king but Him - as King of the universe - greek - kosmos. And Jesus, with him, is king of humanity.}

1- My brethren (brothers and sisters) let there be no favoritism as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. 2 For if someone wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your meeting, and a poor person in old clothing also comes in, 3 and you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “Sit here in this preferred seat,” while you say to the poor person, “Stand over there,” or, “Sit on the floor,” 4 have you not then made division and distinctions among yourselves and are judges with evil intent?

     5 Listen, my much loved ones, hasn’t God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith? And heirs to the kingdom he has promised to those who love him?

     6 But you dishonor the poor one. And isn’t it the rich who oppress you, and drag you into court? 7 And who insult the honorable name by which we are called?

     8 If you really fulfill the Royal Law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor [plésion - any other person] as yourself” - then, you are doing well.

28 - Peter said to Jesus, “We’ve left everything to follow you!” 29 Jesus told him, “I tell you, truly, there’s no one who has left house or brothers, or sisters or mother, or father or children, or lands, for my sake and the gospel’s sake, 30 who won’t receive a hundredfold now in this age, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and lands, but with persecutions [diógmos]. And in the age to come the enduring life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and many last, will be first.”

     32 They were on the road to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead, at a fast pace. And so those who were following were afraid. And once again he told the twelve what was going to happen.

     33 “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the leaders, the chief priests and scribes, and they’ll have him condemned to death and delivered over to the Gentiles (the nations, here Rome). 34 And they will mock him, spit on him, flog him and kill him. But after three days he will rise.”

9 - Let the lowly person boast in their high position. 10 And the rich (boast) in their low state, for like a flower of the grass they (we all) pass away. 11 The sun rises with its scorching heat, and the grass withers {burns away! in a slow gehenna fire - entropy}. The flower fades, and its beauty perishes. So also do riches fade away even as they’re pursued..

     12 Blessed is the one who remains steadfast under trial, for when they’ve stood the test they’ll receive the crown of Life, which God promises to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when tempted, “I’m being tempted by God!” For God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt. 14 But each person is tempted when lured and enticed by their own desires. 15 For desire gives birth to sin. And sin when fully grown brings forth death. {Like grass we fade away.. dust to dust. God’s wrath? Unavoidable unless creation’s to be an ant farm? So get this one and done over with? Life and history as we presently know it, being the crucible. Experience being the only good teacher? And the dis-ease as part of the cure? And immunity..}

10 - Later while in the house the disciples asked Jesus again about it. 11 And he said, “Whoever sends away his wife and weds another, commits adultery against her. 12 And if she goes away from her husband and marries another, she commits adultery [moichaó - breaks the marriage covenant].

     13 Some were bringing children to him so he might bless them. But the disciples were stopping them. 14 And when Jesus saw it, he was annoyed, “Let the children come to me,” he said. “Don’t keep them away, for to such as they, belongs the kingdom of God! 15 I tell you, truly, whoever doesn’t receive the kingdom of God like a little child, cannot enter in.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, and laying his hands on them, he blessed each one.

9 - I (John) have written something to the church/group, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself as foremost, doesn’t welcome us. 10 So if I come, I’ll bring it up, along with the terrible nonsense he’s been saying against us. And not only that, but he also refuses to welcome the brothers, and he prevents those who want to welcome them from doing so!

     11 Beloved! Don’t imitate evil! {As Diotrephes, sowing division, competing, accusing, slandering, etc, all worldly political and a siren call to ever worsening things.} Instead imitate the good. Whoever does good is of God. Whoever does evil has not {yet} seen God.

     12 Now Demetrius, he has received a good testimony from everyone. And from truth itself! {“Truth bears witness of itself”. Logic stands. Root word of logic is logos.} We also add our witness, and you know that our witness {testimony, testament} is true.

     13 I had much to write to you, but I would rather not write with reed and ink. 14 I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.

33 - Then Jesus and the twelve went home to Capernaum. When they were in the house he asked the disciples, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 They didn’t say anything, because they’d been arguing with one another about who was greater. 35 So he sat down and called them round, and he said, “If you would be first, you must be last of all. And a servant of all.”

     36 And then he called a small child over to them, and taking him in his arms, he said, 37 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me. And whoever receives me, receives not me, but he who sent me.”

     38 John (who wrote a gospel account/testimony/testament and 1,2 and 3 John) said, “Rabbi, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he’s not with us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Don’t stop him. For anyone who does a mighty work in my name will not soon be able to speak evil of me. 40 For the one who’s not against us is for us.

     41 I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water because you follow me, will by no means lose their reward!

     42 “But whoever guides one of these little ones into error, it would be better for them if a great millstone were hung around their neck and they be thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! It’s better for you to enter [eiserchomai - enter, go into, come into, go through] life crippled than with two hands away into gehenna fire {‘fiery’ trials and troubles} not quenched.” {Entropy (imperfection) which doesn’t quit so naturally ends in death, but can include much dissolution, thus suffering/‘hell’ on the way.} 45 “And if your foot leads you to crime, cut it off! It’s better for you to enter [eiserchomai - from eis - to or into, point reached, and erchomai -  to come, go] {go through} life lame than with two feet to be thrown into gehenna” (valley dump where criminal’s bodies were thrown - a great insult - so the fires were kept burning. 47 “And if your eye causes you to do wrong, tear it out! It’s better for you to enter [eiserchomai - enter, go into, come into] the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown [balló - throw, cast, put, place] into gehenna, 48 ‘where the worm {of decomposition} does not die and the fire is not quenched’ [sbennumi - extinguished, quenched, suppressed, thwarted, put out]. 49 For - everyone - will be salted with fire.” {God’s wrath is cause and effect/consequences/results. Plus greaT sin will ultimately result in deep heart and gut wrenching remorse. Imagine having been a heartless despot, serial killer, child sex trafficker.. What sort of correction [kolasin] works best? Inner. Inner judgment, inner condemnation.. beating self up “with many stripes?” until realizing Christ Crucified, strong enough to appease every psyche and conscience.}

     50 “Salt is good. {Preserves.} But if salt loses its saltiness, how will it be made salty again? Have salt within yourselves! And - be at peace - with one another.”

14 - And this is the confidence we have, that if we ask anything - according to His will - he hears us. 15 And if he hears us, we have the requests we ask for. 16 So if you see your brother or sister sinning [hamartanó - missing the mark] ask, and God will give them life (repentance/turning). Unless it’s the sin unto death. Concerning that I cannot say. {Blasphemy/insulting the very Spirit/Presence of God. Called ‘the unforgivable sin’. The unable to be forgiven sin while it’s being practiced! “All the world’s a stage” - Shakespeare.}

    17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is missing the mark that isn’t death {to the faith and “walk”}. 18 For we know that everyone who has been born of God doesn’t just keep on sinning! For God protects them from the evil one. 19 We know that we’re from God, but “the world” lies in the POWER of the evil one. 20 And we know the Son of God has come and has given us understanding. This is so we may know He who is True. And we are in him, the true one, through his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God, and iS life enduring. 21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

37 - On the next day, when Jesus, with John, James and Peter came down from the mountain, a great crowd was waiting. 38 And a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher! Please come! And look at my son! He’s my only child! 39 An evil spirit seizes hold of him. And he suddenly cries out and it convulses him so badly, he foams at the mouth! It bruises him, and it keeps coming back. 40 I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they couldn’t!”

     41 Jesus answered, “Oh unbelieving and twisted {missing the mark} generation {humans} how long am I to be with you and tolerate you? Bring your son here.”

     42 And even while he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and presented him back to his father. 43 And the crowd was in awe of the majesty of God.

     But while they were all marveling at all which he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, 44 “Listen carefully to these words, let them sink into your ears - the Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of man.” {The world.} 45 But they didn’t understand what it was he was saying. It was hidden from them, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
