Book of the Acts of the First Believers

1 - At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of a Roman military guard. 2 He was a devout man who revered God along with all his household. He gave charity generously to the people around him, and he prayed daily to God.

     3 At about the ninth hour on a certain day, he saw in a clear vision, an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.”

     4 Which surprised and frightened him. And he said, “What is it, Lord?”

     And the angel of the LORD said, “Your prayers and giving of gifts has risen like incense before God! 5 Send some men to Joppa and bring the man Simon who’s called Peter. 6 He’s staying with a man named Simon, a tanner by trade, who lives by the sea.”

     7 After the angel left, he called two of his hired servants and a devout soldier, 8 and telling them everything, he sent them off to Joppa for Peter.

     9 And on the next day, as they were getting near to the city, Peter went up on the housetop, at about the sixth hour (noon) to pray. 10 And while waiting for the meal that was being prepared, he fell into a trance [ekstasis - ecstacy, amazement, trance] 11 and saw the heavens opened. And something like a great sheet was descending from above. It was let down by its four corners onto the earth, 12 and in it were all kinds of animals, reptiles and birds of the air.

     13 And there came a voice, saying, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “No LORD! For I’ve never eaten anything that is common or unclean!” {Forbidden.}

      15 And the voice came again, saying “What God has made clean, don’t call common [koinoó - common, not special].”16 This happened three times. And then the sheet was taken up the way it came.

    17 While Peter was puzzled as to what the vision might mean, the men sent by Cornelius, having asked in town where the house of the tanner was, had arrived, and were standing at the gate. 18 And they called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was there.

     19 Peter was still pondering the vision, and the Spirit of God said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you. 20 Go down and accept them without question, for I’ve sent them here to ask for you.”

     {Hebrews were supposed to remain “separated” (called out) from the nations/world - to preserve their own (righteous) culture - in order to birth into the world, the “savior of the world”. And somewhat in context, as opposed to being born among strange customs?}

            ☀️ A.M. James 1:23-27

23 - If we are a hearer of the word, and not also a doer, it’s like looking intently at ourself in a mirror one minute, 24 and then going away the next minute, and forgeting what we look like!

     25 But if we look into the perfect law - the Law of Liberty - and persevere, being no hearer who forgets, but a doer who {knows and so} does {who “follows” because we are convinced and believe} we will be blessed! {It is the work of God’s Spirit/Presence that “convinces”. The translation “convict” is the extreme. Needed in the case of despots, etc? And in some other cases? We are psychological beings. Why the remedy had to be dramatic enough to convince and appease every conscience. Deep down we don’t want to be imperfect (cause of entropy, that “doesn’t quit”). We want to be be “like Jesus”. The prodigal son or daughter returned home to Father who cherishes. Prodigal erased like it had never been. Concerning the world, does he have “wrath”?! Sure.. wouldn’t you? Concerning all abuses! But he’s still “savior of all” 1Tim.4:10. And sent his onLy straight out from him one, to be “savior of the world” 1Jn.4:14. But surely(?) his wrath is cause and effect. During early - formative - times he did do some intervention, and those sleeping in death will thank him for his intervention! Surely? Imperfection is an abyss of potential. Pre flood was hands off? Next they know will be resurrection into GWT ‘Day’ of Judgment/Discernment/Closure, and “Kolasin”/(K)Correction, during the latter part of Jesus’ long second advent, Rev.20 (told like describing crests of waves). Full scope version of his first so brief one?}

     26 If anyone thinks they’re religious but cannot bridle their words, they deceive theirself. And their religion is useless [mataios - vain, aimless, without purpose, not useful]. 27 Religion that is pure and uncontaminated before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction {this isn’t make human government all powerful, aka, supplying all things, so owns all things, only a Perfect Being can run the commune} and to keep oneself free from the vices of the world. {Which includes all malice and division.. the serpent speaks in our own voice “I care about orphans and widows, but those ‘others’ over there don’t!” And on and on what a trap. Beware the leaven of politics/power/division (the Pharisees were of). It surely(?) leads nowhere good, aNd, it’s a lie. A captivity. Siren call to armageddon. It’s those who are still tares who are gathered to it.. near or far doesn’t matter? Is.24:20/Rev.10:4. Mt.13:30 in context is Rev.16:14-15-16 oR Mt.25:1-13.}

17 - Later, as he set out and was walking along, a man ran up, knelt before him and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit the enduring life?” [Aiónios - ages long (life).] (There’s not really a word for ‘forever’ in the Greek.. or the Old Testament Hebrew. But logically, true Life, being God himself, 1Jn.5:20, is, of course, enduring (Life.)

     18 And Jesus answered the man, “Why do you call me good! No one is good except God. 19 As you know the commandments,  ‘don’t murder, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t bear false witness, don’t defraud, and honor your father and mother.’”

     20 And the man exclaimed, “Teacher! I have kept all these from my youth!” 21 And Jesus, with affection said, “I see that you lack one thing! Go and sell all you have. And give to the poor. You’ll have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.”

     22 Saddened, the man went away, sorrowful, for he had great wealth.

     23 And Jesus told his disciples, “How difficult it is for those who have great possessions to enter the kingdom of God!” {And we’re urged to envy them!} 24 And the disciples were amazed and wondered.

     But Jesus explained, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy person to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were surprised.

     “Then who” they said, “can be saved?!” 27 Jesus answered, “With man it’s impossible, but with God, eveRything is possible.”

Acts 5 17-42

17 - But the high priest rose up, and those who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, for they were filled with envy. 18 They rose up and arrested the apostles and had them put into prison.

     19 But then, during the night, an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors, led them out, and said, 20 “Go to the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life.” 21 And when they heard it, they went to the temple at daybreak and began to teach.

     In the morning, the high priest and the Sadducees came, and called together the leaders, the senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have the apostles brought in. 22 But when the officers came, they didn’t find them, so they returned and reported, 23 “We found the prison securely locked and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them we found no one inside!” 24 Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard this, they were greatly perplexed. 25 Then someone came and told them, “Look! The men you put in prison are standing in the temple, teaching the people.” 26 Then the captain with the officers went and brought them to the council, but not by force, for they were afraid the people would throw stones at them.

     27 The high priest said, 28 “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name! And here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching! You intend to bring this man's blood upon us!” 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by having him crucified. 31 And God has exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are witnesses of these things! And so is the Holy Spirit(/Presence of God) which God gives to those who obey him.”

     33 Listening to this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them. 34 But a Pharisee of the council named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law who {unlike most?} was held in honor by the people, stood up and said, “Put the men outside for a while.” 35 So they did, and then he said, “Men of Israel, take care what you do with these men. 36 For before these days Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him. But he was put to death, and all who followed him were scattered and it all came to nothing. 37 After him Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away some of the people after himself. He too was destroyed, and all who followed him were dispersed. 38 So in this case, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or undertaking is of man, it will fall apart. {For the leader had been eliminated.} 39 But if it is of God, you’ll not be able to overcome it. You might even be found to be opposing God!”

     So they took his advice, 40 and when they had called in the apostles, they had them beat and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus. And then they let them go.

     41 And they left the council rejoicing, and were happy to be counted worthy to suffer for the name [onoma - name, authority, cause] of Jesus.

     42 And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and proclaim that the Christ/Messiah is Jesus. [Christ - Christos - anointed one, Messiah; Xristós - from xríō - anoint with olive oil – properly, the anointed one, the Christ - Hebrew, Messiah. “Savior of the world.”]

27 Jesus and his disciples went to the villages near the town of Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” 28 The disciples answered, "Some say you are John the Baptist or maybe Elijah. Others say you are one of the prophets." 29 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Messiah.” 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about Him. 31 And he began telling his disciples what would happen to him. He said, "The nation's leaders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law of Moses will make the Son of Man suffer terribly. He will be rejected and killed, but three days later he will rise to life." 32 As he talked about this openly with his disciples, Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Go away from me adversary” he said. “You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”
