04/29 ~ From New Testament Letters
(In the Order Believed Written)
Paul’s 1st Letter To Timothy
1 - Let all who owe as bondservants regard the mister (of the loan of land or money) as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be accused. {Today employees.} 2 Those who have believing misters mustn’t be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers. They should serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things, Timothy. 3 If anyone teaches differently what doesn’t agree with the words of our Lord Jesus and with the teaching that accords with godliness, 4 they are puffed up with conceit and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy craving for controversy and quarrels about words. Which produce envy, division, abusive speaking, evil accusations, 5 and constant friction among those who are corrupt in mind and destitute of the truth, imagining that the way is a means of gain [porismós - from poros - a way, means (route) that brings gain or profit] {centered upon self}. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
