08-22 - 1John 4 12-16 Mark 8 27-33

Verses paraphrased due to ©‘s [ref] {thots}

(An 8TH ‘DAY’ Studies Journal)

            ☀️ A.M. 1John 4:12-16

12 - No person has seen God. If we love one another, God is in us and abides in us, and his love is made perfect in [en - in, on, at, by, with, among] us. [“Made perfect” - teleiรณล – to consummate, reach the end-stage, i.e. working through the entire process to reach the final phase and conclusion; from tel/telos - to reach the end-aim, translated as ‘end’.] 13 And it’s by this that we know we abide in him, and he in us, because he has given us of His Spirit/Presence {which “is Love” opposite of passing judgment, division.. It always wears a cloak you know?}. 14 And we have seen - and testify - that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses [homologeรณ - speaks the same, agrees] (knows) Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in them, and they in God. 16 And so we have come to know, and believe in, the love God has for us. God iS love. And whoever abides in love {has genuine affection for our fellow persons} abides in God. And God abides in them.

            ๐ŸŒ™ P.M. MARK 8:27-33

27 - Jesus traveled on with his disciples, walking to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And while they were walking he asked his disciples, “Who do people that say I am?” 28 And they answered, “Some say John the Baptist. Others say, Elijah. Or one of the prophets.”

     29 And he asked them, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered saying, “You are the Christ!” 30 And he told them by no means to tell any one about him. {His execution would come all the sooner..?} [Matthew says Jesus said to Peter “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock {Spirit led belief} I will build my church. And the gates of Hades {death, Eccles.9:10, Ps.16:10, Acts 2:27} will not prevail against it” Mt.16:17,18.] {Gates of entropy.. which “doesn’t quit”.}

     31 He began to teach them how the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the leaders, the chief priests and scribes, and he would be killed, and after three days he would rise. 32 And he said it plainly. So Peter took him aside and said, “Don’t say that!” 33 But turning and seeing his disciples listening, he said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! [Satanas - adversary, accuser.] For your thinking isn‘t upon the things of God, but according to the things of man.”

08-09 - From 1Jn-2 Lk-8

(8th ‘Day Studies)

1John 2:11-14  Luke 8:49-56

            ☀️ A.M. 1John 2:11-14

11 - Whoever hates [miseรณ - to hate, detest, love less, esteem less despises] their brother [adelphos - from the same womb] {all from Eve, their fellow person/others} IS in the dark. And walking in darkness, not knowing where they stumble, because the darkness has blinded their eyes.

    12  I (John) am writing to you, little children because for his name's [onoma - authority, CAUSE, name’s] sake, your sins/“missing the mark” is forgiven. 13 I’m writing to you, fathers, because you’ve known he who is from the beginning. [And what he taught - Adam Clarke Commentary.] I’m writing to you, young men, because you’ve overcome the evil one. I’m writing to you, children, because you know the Father.

     14 I write to you, fathers, because you know he who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you’re strong, and the word of God lives/abides in you, and (so) you overcome the evil one.

            ๐ŸŒ™ P.M. LUKE 8:49-56

49 - While Jesus was still walking and teaching, someone from the Jairus’ house came and said, “Your daughter has died, don’t trouble the teacher any longer.” 50 But Jesus heard and said, “Don’t fear. Just believe. And she’ll be well.”

     51 When they came to the house, he allowed no one to enter with him, except Peter, John and James, and the father and mother of the girl. 52 And the people who had gathered, were weeping and mourning, but he said, “Don’t weep. She’s not dead but sleeping.” {The big sleep.}

     53 And they laughed at him, for they knew she had died {perished, hades-not seen, state of being gone, God is Life and “is perfect” mt.5:48, thus this sad state of affairs, this contrast (imperfection/entropy)}. {And slow gehenna. Before death, not after. Though second resurrection rises as mortal? It has to doesn’t it?}

     54 Taking her by the hand he said, “Child, arise.” 55 And her spirit [pneuma - spirit, wind, breath] returned, and she got up at once. And he told them to give her something to eat. 56 And her parents were amazed, but he told them not to tell anyone what had happened.

ACTS 2 22-41

 Luke wrote “of the things fulfilled among us” paraphrased  [ ] ref  { } thots

     Book of the Acts of the First Believers

(Review - At Pentecost that year, seven weeks after resurrection, the Holy Spirit(/Presence of God) was poured out upon the believers. It came as a wild and rushing wind which caused quite a stir and confusion among those in Jerusalem for Pentecost, so Peter stood up to speak, and concluded with) 22 - “Fellow Israelites, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man, was shown to you by God with many mighty works, wonders, and signs, that God did through him among you — as you yourselves know. 23 This Jesus, was delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, when you crucified and killed him by the hands of lawless men.” {The gone astray, lawless world.} 24 “But God raised him up, loosing the anguish of death, because it wasn’t possible for death to hold him. 25 For David [known to be a prophetical ‘type’ of Jesus]  says concerning it, ‘I saw the LORD always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken, 26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced! My flesh/body also will abide in expectation. 27 For you will not abandon my soul to hades” [verse 27 is a - word for word - quote of Ps.16:10, only replacing “sheol, where there’s no doing nor knowing/awareness” Eccles.9:10, with the Greek hades - not seen (aka gone)] “nor will you let your holy one see corruption. 28 You make known to me the path of Life! You make me full of gladness with your Presence!’” [Soul is nephesh - soul/psyche, life, self, person, heart, creature, mind, living being. “You will not abandon me ..to (the) sheol.”}

     29 “Brethren! I may say to you with confidence, about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried. His tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, he knew God had sworn with an oath (Ps.45:23) to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne (Ps.132:11). 31 And he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to sheol, nor did his flesh see corruption” (Ps.16:10, according to original word use).

     32 “This Jesus, God raised up. And of that - we’re all witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of His Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.” {Father and Son are so close, both administer God’s Spirit/Presence, same as will saturate and seal” all creation and humanity.}

     34 For David didn’t ascend into the heavens! But he prophesied - ‘The LORD said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, 35 until I make your enemies your footstool.’” [1Cor.15:22-28 w/ Mt.13:33, key word 3, barley, wheat, grape. Whereas Mt.13:30 is Rev.16:14-15-16 and, or Mt.25:1-13(10) — Much later completing JN.5:28,29].

     36 “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

     37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers! What shall we do!?”

     38 And Peter said, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins [hamartia - missing the mark] and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, all whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” {Exodus 33:14 - “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”}

     40 And with many other words he bore witness (testified) saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation/what was generated!” {This imperfection/entropy, that “doesn’t quit”. Purposely generated/allowed, because an Ant Farm is no paradise.} 41 So those who received his message were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

04-04 - Eph-6 Lk-16

N.Testament & Prophecy Advanced CU Study, verses paraphrased  [ ] references { } thots

 • Ephesians 6:4-9  Luke 16:16-31 and separately Rev.20:1-6

            ☀️ Ephesians 6:4-9

4 - Fathers, don’t be the kind of parent your children will hate and be angry toward! But do bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the LORD.

     5 Bondservants [working off a borrowing of money or land usage] work for and serve your earthly masters with respect. With a sincere heart, as you would for Christ, 6 not as a people pleaser, in phoniness, but as true servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. 7 Rendering service with good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, they’ll receive back from the Lord, whether one is a bondservant or is free. 9 And misters, do the same to them, don’t be threatening and intimidating. Know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and with him there’s no partiality.

            ๐ŸŒ™ Luke 16:16-31

16 - Answering the Pharisees, Jesus said, “The Law and the Prophets were until John. But since then, the good news of the kingdom of God is proclaimed, and all [pas - every, the whole, all] press in. 17 But it’s easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of the pen of the law to fail”.     18 “A man who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and a man who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.”

     {Following the Law - first contract - greatLy benefits! But isn’t what delivers out from death/hades/gone. “The wage/result of hamartia - missing the mark, is death” Romans 6:23. Because God iS Life and “is perfect” Mt.5:48. And no option to stray in Eden and we’d be an ant farm.”}

     19 Jesus told a story, a parable, “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen. And every day he feasted extravagantly. 20 Yet all the while at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, who even was covered with sores from being malnourished. 21 He thought if only he could be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores, 22 until the poor man died, and was carried {past millennia?} by the angels to Abraham's bosom. {The Light.}

     And the rich man also, died and was buried. 23 And being in torment in hades. {Not in the Light? In the inner, outside of the Light, darkness, gnashing of teeth.} He looked and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side!

     24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool my dry, parched tongue, for I’m in anguish in this fiery torment.’” {Jn.12:32, Jesus “will draw all” and so the neglectful rich man who let Lazarus die at his gate, is sure to begin to progress toward the weeping.. beating self up “with many stripes”.. heartfelt remorse.. until perceiving Christ Crucified, strong enough to appease eveRy conscience, needed because imperfection is an abyss of potential. And we can only trick the psyche for so long.}

     25 “But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received good things, and Lazarus bad things. But now he’s comforted, and you’re in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you is a great gulf {mortal to having “put on immortality/perfection”} in order that those who would pass from here to you can’t, and none may cross from there to us.’ 27 And the (formerly) rich man said, ‘Then I beg you, father, send him to my father's house, 28 for I have five brothers, so he may warn them, lest they also come into this place [topos - location, region, opportunity, figuratively condition] of torment.’

     29 But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets, let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent [matanoeo - think better and turn].’ 31 He said to him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

03-17 - Col-3 Jn-8

N.Testament & Prophecy Advanced CU Study, verses paraphrased  [ ] references { } thots, late been ill

 • Colossians 3:1-11  John 8:21-32

            ☀️ Colossians 3:1-11

1 - So! If you’ve been - raised with Christ - seek the above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. {๐Ÿค”This proves just because there’s metaphor and spiritual aspect, does not mean there is no literal aspect! As in can we have a metaphor without the literal? As what would the metaphor be about?! Afterall “if there’s no resurrection out-of death, then we of all people are to be most pitied” 1Cor.15:19.}

     2 Set your mind on the above {the higher}, not preoccupied by the mere mundane. 3 For you have died. And your life is hidden with Christ, in God.

     4 And so, when Christ who is your life appears, then you also will be with him in [en - in, on, at, by, with, among] glory {and radiance}. 5 Put to death therefore what is the lowest - sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. [Wrath - greek orge - passion] {in my opinion, logically, cause and effect - his passion - as opposed to creation as some sort of ant farm.}

     7 In such things you too (mostly gentiles in that day) were once living in. 8 But now you must put all that away, aLso - anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene jesting. {Division, slander, accusation.} 9 And don’t lie to one another, seeing you have put off the old self that used to act in those way.

     10 For you have put on the new self, the one being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one having created us. [Image - eikแน“n - from eรญkล - to be like, reflects its source (what it corresponds to) eikแน“n assumes a prototype, of which it not merely resembles, but from which it is drawn" (R. Trench) (eikแน“n) then is more than a "shadow" but rather it is a replication.] 11 Where there is not Greek and Hebrew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all, and in all. {NO division.That’s a sentiment of the world, and the “god of it”.}

            ๐ŸŒ™ John 8:21-32

21 - Jesus told the people again, “I’m going away. And you’ll look for me, but you’ll die in your sin” [hamartia - missing the mark]. {So will rise that way.} “Where I’m going, you’re not able to go.”

     22 So they said, “Will he kill himself? Since he says, ‘Where I’m going, you can’t go’?” 23 He answered them, “because you’re from below.” {ThiS is the below. And the “lower part of earth” is the grave, originally the hebrew sheol - “where there is no doing nor knowing/awareness” (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10) - if we are genuinely visited by a no longer here loved one it’s from another dimension called the future(?) A direct verse quote only exchanging the greek hades for the hebrew sheol, shows hades is the same place and condition as sheol (Ps.16:10, Acts 2:27), Jesus was in the grave for three days and nights. Logically, his visit to those who were “locked into destruction” was during the one hundred years of Noah’s building the ark. They were ‘locked into destruction’ because they were not listening, and the flood was coming! 1Pet.3:19-20 (“visited them via the Spirit”) being answered by 2Pet.2:5 - “Noah, was a preacher of righteousness”.}

     “I’m from above. You’re of this world, but I’m not of this world. 24 I told you that you would die in your imperfection/missing the mark, for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your missing the mark (of perfection). {So will rise into the GWT judgment ‘Day’ (“aionion”) - INITIALLY - “still in sin”/missing the mark.}

     That God is life, is the iron/unbreakable natural law, number one. And number two, is he “is perfect”. So imperfect is entropy a process (crucible and gehenna) that does not quit/reverse. “The wage/result of sin is death” Romans 6:23.

     BUT. No option to stray in Eden, and creation would be an ant farm. So the remedy - strong enough to appease eveRy conscience (for imperfect is also an abyss of potential - so the remedy) was built in. During pre-flood even cannibaalism was rife? “Covering angels” of animals joined the “covering angel over Eden” in his rebellion, so some animals turned predator? And if man had not become carnivore, mankind would’ve become prey? How low can we (each of us) go? Depends where God blocks the shaft to the abyss with his hand?}

     25 So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus answered, “Just what I’ve been telling you from the beginning. 26 I have many things to tell you and to judge concerning you. But he who sent me is true and genuine, and what I speak to the world is what I hear from him.”

     27 But they didn’t understand he was talking to them about the Father. 28 So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you’ll know that I’m he. And that I do nothing on my own, but I say what the Father has taught me. 29 And he is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him.” {And perfect, an immutable law.} 30 As he was saying these things, many believed in him.

   09/08 - GospeL Verses

13 - “Woe to you, Chorazin.. Woe to you, Bethsaida..” Jesus said, “For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have turned long ago, and sat in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more bearable” [anektoteros - more tolerable, from anรฉxomai - ana - up, completing a process, and exล - to have] {will be better during completion of the process} “for Tyre and Sidon than it will be for you in [en - in, on, at, by, with, among, within] the judgment.

     15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven..? You shall be brought down to Hades [hadรฉs - from “A” - not, and idein/eidล - see; not seen] {gone, state of gone.. pre the Greek myth}.

     16 The one who hears [akouรณ - hears, listens, comprehends by hearing] you, hears me, and the one who rejects [atheteรณ - sets aside, does away with] you, sets aside me, and the one who sets aside me, sets aside he who sent me.”

     17 And when the seventy-two returned, with joy, they said, “Lord! In your name, even the demons are subject to us!!” 18 And Jesus said, “I beheld Satan [satanas - adversary] {first gone rogue one} as lightning fall from heaven. 19 And see, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy [exthrรณs - hostility, and deep rooted hatred, resolved to inflict harm]. And nothing shall harm you.

     20 Nevertheless, don’t rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

         Luke 10:13-20

13 “What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have repented long ago. They would have dressed in sackcloth and put ashes on their heads. 14 Yes, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on judgment ‘day’ than you. 15 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades. [Hades is the greek translation from sheol “where there’s no doing nor thought”. A direct translation proves it is the same sheol. Acts 2:27 - “You will not leave my soul in Hades..” is a word for word quote of Psalm 16, verse 10 - “You will not leave my soul in Sheol..”. Except for the one word, making hades the same old sheol. Another word, besides sheol and hades, that got translated by those crazy hell chasers into the word “hell” is “pit”. Even when “the dust of” is in the verse! A perfect spot for “rofl” but it’s not all that funny. It’s the adversary who says “I will ascend/go up to heaven, yippee we will all go up to heaven!” Not once does the scripture say that. And the “fiery hell” is obviously prophecy. The “long sword” given to horseman of the apocalypse two, the rider on the red horse of war. It’s first unleashing was as fat man and little boy, then four angels hold back the winds, and are still holding while the servants of God are sealed on their foreheads (clarity?!). Rev.7:1,3,9,4. THE just previous seal 6 - first thermonuclear event - is veiled as to what it SO obviously is, and first event was (imo). How is it lightly veiled? By describing the full thermonuclear effects on planet earth from first occurrence to total last events (7 thunders?) at the ‘end’. By its description being a blend of its first ‘limited’ occurrence, and its full blown occurrence later. — Though an interruption of it being held back, will be followed by the seven year ‘peace! peace!’ broken in the middle with Israel, against Israel, Daniel 12:11-12. And also! Don’t worry, as the final bowls of it ‘come down’ is when the believers ‘go up’ to “meet the Lord” 1Thes.4:17. “The flame will not kindle upon you” Is.43:3, Rev.7:16.) And of course it is the adversary who stands in front of God - in the human psyche - as the hell breathing, vengeful Thor like, and burn people alive forever with no relief god. Like the ancient city-state gods so intent upon making so many wars.]

     Verse 16 - Then he said to the disciples, “Whoever listens to you listens to me, whoever rejects you rejects me. And anyone who says "no" to me is really saying "no" to the one who sent me.” 17 It was at about this time, the seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons obeyed when we spoke in your name!" 18 “Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy, and nothing will harm you.” (Nothing ‘this side of life’ will harm us. We shall all survive intact.. Two full ages follow apocalypse to fulfill fully all God’s purpose - rational beings able to think, reason and make choices, aNd a forever intact paradise/perfection. The Kingdom comes to Earth, Rev.21 and 22, though chapter 22 has narrative in it that is (spoken) outside of the vision, portraying INITIAL conditions for SOME at “the judgment” age (aion). 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this! That the spirits are subject to you! But rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

The Scroll of God

The Bibles we read come from a long line. What once were scrolls written in Hebrew, and words spoken in Aramaic (the gospels) went through the Greek language and were likely Hellenized like most other things. Then there was the Latin. So the Hebrew "sheol" where there was "neither doing nor thought" became first "hades" (Greek) a "place of the dead" and then "inferno" (Roman). Then came Signor Dante with his entertaining tales (in the 1300's). This was after some Norse tribes had brought into the lands their slant on an afterlife, named Helheim, shortened to Hel. And then of course came along (1600's) good King James, whose heart was likely in the right place, it's just by then the culture was saturated with these other (nonbiblical) ideas.

Reading Bible Prophecy 2012, #1

The "four horsemen of the apocalypse" pick up their gallop. The gospel (the first horse and rider, a white horse) picks up its gallop/progression. Then "wars and rumors of war" increase. The 2nd horseman, or element, of the 'latter' age of the year's A.D. is war, a red horse. The 3rd horse's march has to do with trade ("weights and balance" a black horse). All things economic slide. The 4th horseman is called "death" and "the grave" (mass) "follows after him" - this one is "pestilence" including chemical (we've seen this in our age and will see it again). This horseman rides a "pale horse".
- These four horsemen are the first four seals in the Book of Revelation. The 5th seal is persecutions and murders for the faith, and that too accelerates. The 6th  seal is thermal-nuclear winds.
- When each "seal" is described, very early on in the Book of Revelation narrative, they are described in a blend of what they are when first "opened" and what they are at the 'end' in their fully progressed state. [This obscures the Apocalypse vision, a first lock, and key.] This new wind, the sixth seal, was "opened" in 1945, then are seen "four angels at the four corners" (directions, north, south, east, west) "of the world holding back the wind" so it "not harm earth or trees" for a space of time (Rev 7:1). This progressing/galloping element of the years of our Lord A.D. also accelerates, as what's prophesied unfolds and occurs.
- - Matthew 24:7,8 - New King James Version (NKJV) - "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."

Just What Is Hell, Besides a Mistranslation Which Should Read Death?

'Hell' was created, as 'hell' is commonly understood to be, very early on, but not by God! As a place of torment it has been a part of ancient Pagan (non-Hebrew) beliefs and reached its epiphany in Greece. But Israel acquainted "hellfire" with fiery (national) judgment. And Sheol, of course, the place of the dead, was the grave and the dust of - Isaiah 14:11; Genesis 3:19 (Philippians 2:10).
- "Hell" is being without God. But that can't happen! God is Life. Every little drop of Life is God - Genesis 1:1 - so to be without God is to not be. Period. "And the last thing to be vanquished is death" - 1 Corinthians 15:26. (The opposite of Life, is non-life.)
- Jude, in verse 7, said "the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.. is the example of eternal fire" - Jude 7. Is there flames and fire there now, where Sodom and Gomorrah once were? Rather it is mounds of dust and ashes. Revelation 19:3 speaks of destruction as a "smoke that rises forever and ever." It is an eternal lesson which is remembered forever and ever, and then some. The smoke (memory) of it will rise forever in our memory and psyche. We cannot walk away from God in any means or fashion, because God is both Life and Perfection. To turn from Him in any little thing is to cease to be. It's an eternal "note to self (a great gift) which says "CANNOT BE DONE".
- But this journey and lesson of hell (death) and hellfire, this narrative of God is/was unavoidable, unless God is creating an ant farm and robots. But He's not. He's of course creating the absolutely best thing possible, because He is, after all, Perfection. So the 'end' result of all this can only be Perfect. Nothing else is possible.

Root Word Of Cemetery

Just a little note here of something I came across in a book I was reading.. I couldn't find many online references to it, but the best one is the first line in the third paragraph of the link below. I never realized it before, but it seems the word cemetery comes from a Greek root meaning "a sleeping place". The book I was reading said the early Christians built the catacombs as sleeping rooms for those who had passed on. This set me to wondering (more so) if the first Christians did not view death as a sort of wandering on, or other form or dimension of life, as most do today, but rather as a sleeping, while awaiting the resurrection "at the last day" as described in 1 Thessalonians 4 (13-18). Christians chose these "sleeping places" in lieu of the cremation used by other faiths around them, especially as they may have believed the "last day" of the resurrection of the body, and the return of Christ, was in the not very distant future. [Of course there's nothing wrong with cremation, otherwise anyone perishing in fire would be lost, which would suggest limitation to an all powerful God.]
