33 - And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 35 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Look! He’s calling to Elijah.” 36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with strong wine, and putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink, saying, “Will Elijah come to take him down?” 37 But then Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last breath. 38 And the (large, metal weaved in?) curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. 39 When the Roman centurion guarding there, saw how he died, he said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” 40 There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Salome, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger (of the twelve disciples) and of Joses. 41 When he was in Galilee, they had aided him with meals and support. There were also many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.
42 And when evening was coming [hurriedly] (the new day beginning at sunset, which day would be a Sabbath/no work day) since it was (still) before Unleavened Bread Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus had already died. And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. 45 And when he learned that he was, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in it and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 And Mary the mother of Joses and Mary Magdalene saw where he was laid.
LUKE 23:44-56 [Accounts always differ in details, especially after some time has passed.] 44 - It was now about the sixth hour [about noon] and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour [3 pm]. 45 Then the curtain of the temple was torn in two. [Matthew 27:52 - The earth shook, the rocks split.] 46 And Jesus, calling out with a loud voice said, “Father into your hands I commit my spirit!” [Commit, entrust - paratithΓ©mi- to place beside, to set before, to entrust, to commit, from serve a meal to commit, entrust, from para - beside or alongside, and tithΓ©mi - to place or to set.. entrust, commit, serve (“into your hands my spirit”.] And having said this he breathed his last. 47 Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, and said, “Surely this man was innocent!” 48 And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts. 49 And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.
50 Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, 51 who had not consented to their duplicity {conspiracy} and he was waiting for the kingdom of God. 52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid him in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid. 54 It was the day of Preparation, and the (Unleavened Bread) Sabbath was beginning. [First Day of Unleavened Bread is a Sabbath/no work day. It is the day after Passover, which Passover is the “preparation day” for it.] 55 The women who had come with him from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how his body was laid. 56 Then they left and prepared spices and ointments. And on the (Unleavened Bread) Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
[Remember, days began at sunset, not at midnight. They would have prepared spices on the day after the Sabbath of First Day of Unleavened Bread, so did the work of preparing them on 2nd day of Unleavened Bread, then rested/no work on the regular weekly Sabbath (7th day, Saturday) ..and went to the tomb as the sun was rising on the day following the weekly (Saturday) Sabbath — Passover and 1st Day of U.B. are moveable holy days. But the third holy day, Firstfruits, isn’t moveable but is always on the same day of the week, the day after the weekly (Saturday) Sabbath.
Jesus died on Passover - was in the grave as 1st Day of U.B. day was beginning - and rose on Firstfruits. (As weekly Sabbath has ended, same time of day, as 3 days earlier when he was laid in the tomb) - Thus the three holy days of Spring holy week were fulfilled — The Spring and Fall holy days are listed in Leviticus chapter 23.]
