         Luke 10:29-42

29 But the man wanted to show himself as righteous. So he asked Jesus, "Who are my neighbors?" 30 Jesus replied with a story: “A man was traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 Later a temple assistant (civil worker) came to the same place. But when he saw the man who had been beaten up, he also went by on the other side. 33 Then a Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him. (Samaritans were looked down upon by ‘polite’ society.) 34 So he went over to him and treated his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put him on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. 35 The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’ 36 Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” 37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord said, “My dear Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it ought not to be taken from her.”

           ~ James 3:7-12 ~

7 People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, 8 but no one can tame the tongue! It’s a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of Him. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? So neither can salt water yield fresh water.
