          Luke 12:49-59

49 I came to set fire to the earth and I wish it were already on fire!  (Because it would be the ‘end’ of this all important contrast, when it crashes -n- burns.) 50 But I (Jesus) have a baptism of suffering to be baptized with, and I am hard pressed until it’s completed. 51 Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. 52 For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. 53 ‘Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, and mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.’” 54 Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right. 55 And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It will be hot,’ and it is. 56 Are you so without a clue? You can predict the weather by looking at the earth and sky, but you don't really know what's going on right now. (Nothing new under the sun.) 57 So why don't you judge for yourselves what is right? (Think!? Rather than only what we’re told to think.) 58 When you are on the way to court with your accuser, try to settle the matter before you get there. Otherwise, your accuser may drag you before the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, who will throw you into prison. 59 And if that happens, you won’t be free again - until - you have paid the last penny you owe.”

   ~ 1 Thessalonians 2:8-13 ~

8 Having such a fond affection for you, we were happy to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us. 9 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God’s Good News to you. 10 Both you and God are witnesses that we were pure and honest and innocent in our dealings with you. 11 And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children. 12 Encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who has called you into his Kingdom and glory. 13 Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word is indeed at work in you who believe.
