2 Corinthians 8 1-14

  12/31 ~ From New Testament Letters

  🕊️ (In the Order Believed Written)

1 - We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty has overflowed into a wealth of generosity. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, and of their own accord, 4 asking us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us as well. 6 So we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete with you this act of grace. 7 But as you excel in everything—in faith, speech, knowledge, in earnestness, and in the brotherly love that is between us, I know you’re bound to excel in this act of grace also.

     8 This isn’t a commandment we’re speaking about, or anything like that, but it will show to them how genuine your love for them is. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for our sake he became poor, so that by his poverty, we might become rich! 10 And in this matter I think this benefits you, it was a year ago that you started it, through your own motivation. 11 So now is indeed a good time to finish doing it. But out of what you have! 12 For if the motivation is there, it’s acceptable according to what a person has, and not according to what they don’t have. 13 For it’s not that others should be eased and you burdened. But 14 that your abundance at the present time, can supply their need, and their abundance may supply your need at a future time. {Not a top down “collectivism” to distribute to the masses - where somehow the distributing falls short.}
