βWhy Are You Sleeping?β
Paraphrased w/ some CU comments.
Mark 14:26-42 or Luke 22:39-46
Neither Mark nor Luke were there, so they are writing someone elseβs account - Mark for Peter? - or they interviewed ones who were there.
Mk.14:26 - When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 27 βYou will all fall away,β Jesus told them, βfor itβs written, βI will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.β 28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.β 29 Then Peter declared, βEven if all fall away, I will not!β 30 βTruly I tell you,β Jesus answered, βtoday, yes, tonight, before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times.β 31 But Peter insisted, βEven if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.β And all the others said the same. 32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, βSit here while I pray.β 33 He took Peter, James and John with him, and he began to be deeply troubled. 34 βMy soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,β he said to them. βStay here and keep watch.β 35 Going farther, he fell to his knees and prayed if possible the hour might not come to pass. 36 βAbba, Father,β he said, βeverything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.β 37 Then he returned to his disciples and finding them asleep said, βSimon, are you sleeping? Couldnβt you keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you not fall into temptation, for the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.β 39 And again he went away and prayed the same. 40 When he came back, he found them again sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. And they didnβt know what to say to him. 41 Then returning the third time, he said, βAre you still sleeping and resting? The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise, let us go, my betrayer has come.β
β Luke 22:39 β Jesus went out with his (eleven, Jn.18:2) disciples, as he had been doing each evening, to the Mount of Olives. 40 And he said to them, βPray that you will not fall into temptation.β 41 He went about a stoneβs throw away and knelt down in prayer, saying 42 βFather, if you are willing, take this cup from me. yet not my will, but yours be done.β 43 An angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. 44 Praying earnestly and in so much anguish, his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. (Luke was a Greek doctor, this is a true, but rare, medical condition.) 45 When he rose up from prayer, he went back to the disciples and found them sleeping, exhausted from grief. 46 βWhy are you sleeping?β he asked them. βPray, so you will not fall into temptation.β

(In Order Written)
~ 1 Corinthians 11:11-16 ~
11 However! In the Lord, neither is woman separate from man, nor man separate from woman. 12 For as woman was made from man, so now, man is born of woman! And all things (being equal? all) are from God. 13 Judge for yourselves, is it proper (custom in that day) for a woman to pray to God without her head covered? 14 Isn't it unnatural and disgraceful for men to have long hair? (π€Naturally, hair grows. Also what about Samson? So again, custom.) 15 But on a woman it is a thing of beauty, and her hair is given to her to serve as a covering. 16 But if anyone wants to argue about this, all I have to say is that neither we nor the churches of God have any other custom in worship. (ποΈ Paul is answering another question they had asked in a letter, key conclusion, they shouldnβt be in division and dispute about these things. π€Is this a reason why, for so long, so many ladies wore so many strange hats?? When I was a child, the hats had come down to earth a little! Now, if we find ourselves disagreeing with Paul on these issues, it doesnβt mean we should throw our bibles away! We can clearly tell God gave to Paul great insights and revelations about Godβs message and program/administration, that are a gift to us all.)
