Matthew 27:39-49
39 And those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads. 40 “Look at you now!” they shouted up at him. “You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. [He said “destroy this temple (Him) and I will raise it in three days”.] Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!” 41 In the same way, the chief priests, scribes, and leaders mocked Him, saying, 42 “He saved others,” they scoffed, “but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him! 43 He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way. [Note: eye witness accounts, especially told later, always differ.] 45 At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. 46 At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” 47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.” 48 One of them ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, holding it up to him on a reed stick so he could drink. [From a commentary - รณksos – low-grade, unsweetened wine, and given as a cheap painkiller to people condemned to crucifixion. “Apparently Jesus was offered two kinds of wine. One wine was mixed with gall (xolแธ), which Christ refused once He tasted it (Mt 27:34,48) – and the other wine mixed with myrrh” (G. Archer). Also a common drink of Roman soldiers, diluted with water.] 49 But the rest said, “Wait! Let’s see whether Elijah comes to save him.”

Peter’s Second Letter
~ 2 Timothy 2:16-21 ~
16 Avoid pointless discussions, which only drive people farther away from God. 17 Such teaching will spread like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place(๐ค) in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith. 19 In spite of all that, we have a solid foundation that God has laid and cannot be shaken, and on it are written these words: "The Lord knows those who are his" and "those who say they belong to the Lord must turn away from wrongdoing [adikia: injustice, unrighteousness]." 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses theirself from what is dishonorable, they will be set apart for the master's use, prepared (ready) for every good work.
