GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 24:36-44

36 -  “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming [parousia - presence, coming] of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days - before the flood - they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage - until that very day - when Noah entered the ark, 39 they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man. (Simultaneous events - armageddon/a lake of fire - “he comes in fire and with his angels” 2Thes.1:7,8. A lot of life as usual.) 40 Then two will be in the field, one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill, one will be taken and one left. 42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know - on what day - your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, if the master of the house had known in what part of the watch the thief was coming, his house would not be broken into. 44 Therefore you must also be prepared [hetoimos - prepared, ready to face the challenge because the necessary preparations are done]. For the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

     (In the Order Believed Written)

                  ~ 1 Timothy 6:9-21 ~

9 - But those who’s goal is to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge one into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil. It is through this craving that some wander away from the faith and pierce theirselves with many sorrows.

11 But as for you, O man of God (Timothy) flee from those things. Instead pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith! Take hold of the unfading life to which you were called, and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (If we’re committed and excited enough to talk about it, our faith is true. But in life as we presently know it, almost everything seeks to put the light out.) 13 In the presence of God, who gives life to all [why are translators so bent upon replacing all - greek pas - with all things?] and in the presence of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep the commandment [entolé - an injunction, order, command, from en - in, which intensifies télos - to reach the end, end-aim, consummation – properly "in the end," focusing on the end-result (objective) of a command, law, instructions] pure [aspilos - from alpha/a - not, and spilos - spoiled, blemished — unspoiled] and above reproach [anepílēptos - without blame, blameless] until the appearing [epipháneia - showing forth, appearing, epiphany] of our Lord Jesus, 15 which He will display at the proper time. He who is the blessed, the only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 he who onLy is immortal, and dwells in light so bright, no one has ever seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

17 As for the rich in this present age [aión -  a space of time, an age — aiṓnios, its adjective - age-long – properly, an era, time-span, characterized by a specific quality and type of existence, age, but usually translated forever, eternal, neverending] charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of worldly riches, but upon God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus they will store up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future. So they may take hold of that which is truly life.

20 O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you! Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge [gnosis - knowledge, doctrine — “gnosticism" is literally, "the cult based on having special, personal knowledge” not in the scripture - God’s Spirit/Presence speaks to us his Word - how else to determine true from not true? Depend upon our own heart and psyche?] 21 which by professing some have swerved from the faith.

             Grace be with you.

GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 24:29-35 ~

29 - “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light. The stars will fall, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man, and all the tribes of earth will mourn, when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and in great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with the trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one expanse to the other.

32 “Learn from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and it puts out leaves, you know summer is near. 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that the Lord is near, at the very gates. 34 Truly, I tell you, this generation [genea - race, family or generation] will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth may pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

(The tribulation of those days, wars and rumors of.. unrest, wars [polemos - war, battles, strifes] break out, earthquakes, famines, drought? Rev.12:16, false messiahs and prophets - how to know Truth? God’s Spirit/Presence, and the Son speak the “word of God”/the scriptures, the aLmighty sWord the nations will be ruled with, the iron/unbreakable measuring rod (truth).. Being thoroughly proven by life as we presently know it - this unavoidable and all important contrast. Which contrast continues until vivification. The first vivification occurs simultaneous with the Lord’s return beginning his long second advent. Yes? And the second occurs at “the regeneration” (mt.19:28). The greek word being “palin/again-genesis” - at the ReGenesis of Rev.21:25 and 2Pet.3:12-13.) [Mt.13:33, key word 3, with 1Cor.15:22-24,28.]

                  ~ 1 Timothy 6:1-8 ~

1 - Tell all who are under a yoke as bondservants to regard it as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be slandered. (Bondservice was a work system of borrowing money or land.) 2 Those who are working for believers must not be disrespectful because they are brothers. But rather they should serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and are beloved.

Teach and urge all these things Timothy. 3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus and the teaching that accords with godliness, 4 they are puffed up with self importance and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words. But it only produces envy, disagreements, slander, and suspicion. 5 There is constant friction in and among those who are corrupted in mind and lack truth, or who imagine godliness is a means of profit.

6 But godliness, with contentment, is great gain. 7 We brought nothing into this world, and we shall not take anything out of it. (But our relationships. And learning? Will some of us be students during “the” millennium? Very good students!) 8 So if we have food and raiment, with these we should be content.

The Prophets - Zechariah Chapters 1 2

     Paraphrased and Condensed

1:1 In the second year of King Darius — this is Darius the Great, not Darius the Mede who co-ruled for two years. Some time has passed, this Darius (of Persia) is listed as third after Cyrus. — In the eighth month (two months after the word first came to Haggai) the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying.. “Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you. 4 Don’t be like your fathers..  the former prophets cried out to them, “Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they would not hear.. 6 But my words and statutes.. did they not overtake your fathers? ..So they repented and said, ‘As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he dealt with us.’” (The seventy years in captivity in Babylon.. Strangers in a strange land.. Current human condition.)

7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, saying, 8 “I saw in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses. 9 Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ The angel who talked with me said, ‘I will show you what they are.’ 10 So the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, ‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.’11 And they answered the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, ‘We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth remains at rest.’ 12 Then the angel of the Lord said, ‘O Lord of hosts, how long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been indignant these seventy years?’ 13 And the Lord answered gracious and comforting words.. 14 So the angel who talked with me said, ‘Cry out’ (not much printed words back then.) ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am very jealous for Jerusalem and Zion (homeland).15 And I am not happy with the nations that are arrogant for they furthered the consequences that befell them. 16 ..So I return to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built, the measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.’ 17 And cry out (proclaim) again, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.’”

18  And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns! 19 And I said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” And he said, “These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.” 20 Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen [charash - engravers, artificers, stonemasons]. 21 And I said, “What are these coming to do?” ..”These have come to terrify. To cast down/out the horns (powers) of the nations who lifted up their horns (powers) against the land of Judah to scatter [zarah - to scatter, fan, winnow] it.”

Chapter 2

And I looked, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand! 2 Then I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and its length.” 3 And the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him, 4 and said to him, “Run, say to that young man - (the word came to Haggai, old man? And also Zechariah, young man, during this second year of Darius the Great) - ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it! 5 And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory in her midst.

6,7 Up! Up! Escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon. 8 For thus says the LORD of hosts.. he who touches you touches the apple of his eye. 9 Behold, I will turn the tables and you will know that Yhvh of hosts has sent. 10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares Yhvh, the LORD. 11 And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that Yhvh of hosts has sent to you. 12 And the LORD will take possession of Judah as his inheritance in the holy land, for he will again choose Jerusalem.’

13 Be silent all before the Lord for he has stirred himself from his holy dwelling.”

Haggai, Zechariah, then Malachi are prophets after Daniel. And are the last of “the prophets”.

Next - a brief history outline of the times of Daniel and after Daniel.

GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 24:23-28

23 - “Then should anyone say to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ - do not believe it. 24 For false Christs [psuedochrists] and false prophets [psuedoprophetes] will arise and give out signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have warned you. 26 So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ don’t go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms [tameion - inner chamber, secret chamber, closet, storeroom] do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes forth from the east and shines [phainó - bring to light, to cause to appear] as far as the west, so will be the coming [parousía - from parōn - be present, arrive to enter into a situation – properly, coming, especially the arrival of the owner, used in the east as an expression for the royal visit of a king, or emperor, the word means literally - the being beside, the personal presence] of the Son of Man. 28 But wherever a dead body is, there vultures will gather.” (A ‘church’ or believer without Life - the Spirit/Presence of God, results in a gathering of untruths?)

16 - If a woman has relatives who are widows, let her care for them. In this way the church will be free to care for those who are truly widows and in need. 17 Let elders who lead by their good example be considered worthy of double honor, especially those laboring in the word [logos] and teaching. 18 And the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” for, “The laborer deserves his wages.”19 Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three. 20 As for those who persist in wrongdoing, rebuke them openly, so the rest may fear fall therein. 21 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing from partiality. 22 Don't be too quick to accept people into the service of the Lord. Don't sin because others do, instead stay close to God. 23 Use a little wine, with water, for the sake of your stomach and your frequent illness. 24 The sins of some people are obvious, but the sins of others are not apparent until later. 25 So also good works are obvious, and even those that aren’t will not remain forever hidden.

(Warnings for 70 CE, aNd for the final culmination of history, as the next verses show.) 21 For then there will be great trouble (tribulation) such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no and - never will be again.

22 And, if those days are not cut short, no human being would be saved [sozo - saved, preserved (left!)]. But for the sake of the elect [eklektos - those selected, called out by God for special service to Him (Hebrews, Messiah, Christians)] those days will be shortened. (Rev.2:10.. last “ten days” of Dn.12:11 escalating to the most critical? But in Judea, most critical from the beginning? ..Dn.12:12. “Those days” which will include the fiery gehennas, culminating in armageddon - For “he returns in fire and with his angels” 2Thes.1:7,8.)

8 - But (Paul continues) if anyone does not provide for his relatives, especially for members of their household, they are denying the faith and are worse than an unbeliever.

9 Let a widow be enrolled (in support) if she is sixty years of age, having been the wife of one husband, 10 and having a reputation for good works, has brought up children, and shown hospitality, cared for the afflicted, and devoted herself to every good work. 11 But not younger widows, for when their passions draw them away from Christ, they desire to marry 12 and so incur judgment for having abandoned their first faith. 13 Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies. 14 So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage households, giving the adversary no occasion for slander. 15 For some have already strayed after Satan. Jesus continues answering the disciple’s questions - “when will this be? And what will be “the” sign of your coming and the consummation? - 7 - Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in different places. 8 But all this is but the beginning of sorrows (birth pains/travails).

9 Then they will deliver you over to tribulation [thlipsis - persecution, affliction, distress, tribulation, compression, pressure that causes to feel confined, restricted, without options] and put you to death. You will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. (Prior to 70 CE, and prior to the consummation of history. Also as an overall history - nation against nation, kingdom/empire pitted against empire.. Hebrews/Jews hated of nations in WW2. Like widening ripples of a pond.. ) 10 And then many will fall away - Christendom “falls away” by the “strong delusion” that “seats man/anthropos in the temple as god”/highest power) and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 Many false prophets [pseudoprophétés] will rise and mislead many. 12 And because lawlessness will increase [pléthunó - increase, multiply, from pléthos - multitude, crowd, great number, assemblage, bundle] the love of the many will grow cold. 13 The one however enduring to the end will be saved, healed, preserved, rescued (greek sozo - deliver out of danger into safety, safe]. “End” is telos - an end, a toll; and this is interesting “This root (tel-) means "reaching the end (aim)." It is well-illustrated with the old pirate's telescope, unfolding (extending out) one stage at a time until full-strength (capacity effectiveness).” Like widening ripples of a pond.. The pond, laver, crucible.. gehenna! - life as we presently know it, this unavoidable, all important contrast, which the consummation of is bound to be fiery.. But still to this day, is mistaken for an afterlife horror myth rather than earthly prophecy like any other. Hello? We are sleeping?) 14 And this news of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world, to all nations as a testimony, and then the end [telos - end-aim] will come.

And all in purity. 3 Honor widows who are truly widows. 4 But first, if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them show forth godliness toward their parents, for this is most pleasing in the sight of God. 5 She who is truly a widow, left all alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day, 6 but anyone who is self-indulgent are dead even while they live.7 Teach these things as well, so all is respectful, beyond reproach.

GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 24:1-6

1 - Jesus was walking away from the temple, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. 2 But his answer was, “Do you see all this? Truly, I tell you, there will not remain here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down.” [A few days previous - Lk.19:41,44 - “And when he drew near to Jerusalem” riding from Mt. of Olives on the colt of a donkey, he wept, saying.. “..they will not leave one stone upon another within you” - (Of Jerusalem.. Not one stone of her shall remain atop another. I think this may be proof of the “70 weeks” gap - the gap being the times of the nations/gentiles, Dn.12:11(12).

3 A little later as Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives (across the valley from Jerusalem) the disciples came to him saying, “When will these things be? And what will be the sign of your [sos - your] coming [parousia - a presence, a coming, arrival, advent] and the end [synteleia - a joint payment (for public service), joint action, spec. completion, from syn - close with, and teleo - completion, culmination, an end involving many parts, consummation] of the age?” (Aionion syntéleia, when syntéleia occurs with aiōn/age - a complete consummation/end?) 4 And Jesus answered, “See that no one misleads you. 5 For many will come in my name saying I am the Christ, (but?) will mislead many. 6 And you will hear of wars about to be, and reports of war. But do not be troubled or afraid, this is inevitable, but the end is not yet.

Saturate yourself in them, so that all may see your progress, 16 keeping a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Continuing in it, for the safety of yourself, and of your hearers. They welcomed us all, and built a fire because it had begun to rain and was cold. 3 When Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and put them on the fire, a viper, because of the heat, came out and fastened upon his hand. 4 When the native people saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer. Though he has escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to escape.” 5 He, however, shook the creature off into the fire and he suffered no harm. 6 They were waiting for him to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw no misfortune befall him, they changed their minds and said that surely he was a god.

7 Now nearby were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius. He received us and entertained us hospitably for three days. 8 But it happened that the father of Publius lay sick with fever and dysentery. So Paul visited him and prayed, and putting his hands on him, he was healed. 9 And soon the rest of the people on the island who had diseases and sicknesses came and were healed also. 10 They honored us greatly, for when we were about to sail, they put on board whatever it was we needed.

11 And so it was after three months we set sail in a ship that had wintered in the island, an Alexandria ship, with the twin gods as a figurehead. 12 Putting in at Syracuse, we stayed there for three days. 13 And from there we made a circuit and arrived at Rhegium. And the next day a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli. 14 There we found brothers and were invited to stay with them for seven days. And so we came to Rome.15 And the brothers there, when they heard of us, came as far as the Forum of Appius and Three Taverns to meet us. And upon seeing them, Paul thanked God and was encouraged..

29 - (Jesus continues) - “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees! Hypocrites! Actors! You build the tombs of the prophets, and decorate the monuments of the righteous 30 saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in killing the prophets.’ 31 And so you witness against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32 So fill up, then, the full measure! 33 You serpents! Brood of vipers, how are you to escape gehenna judgment? (Fiery judgment of 70ad.) 34 And so I will send [apostelló - commission, send] to you prophets [prophétés - a prophet, interpreter or forth-teller of the divine will, a prophet, a poet, a person gifted at expositing divine truth, one who speaks forth by the inspiration of God, from pro - before, and phēmí - elevating/asserting one idea over another, especially by speaking; prophēteia - prophecy] and wise [sophos - skilled, wise, translated wise men] and scribes. Some you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in the public places [sunagógé - a bringing together, by extension an assembling, or a synagogue — but not necessarily] and you will  persecute them from town to town. 35 So that upon you may be reckoned all the righteous blood shed upon earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.” (Revelation 17:5 says “Mystery Babylon the Great” is responsible for all slain - ‘Mystery Babble’ - all confusion, surely? And wanting to dominate? Empire.. Towers.. “All your high towers will fall” Is.2:15, “Come out of her my people”.. Rev.18:4) (These pretenders murdered the Son of God, sent from the Father, who they claimed to be their God. Pretenders, play-actors. The adversary/Satan (&co.) always plot, infiltrate.. hijack, confiscate, stage-play. Always LooK behind the scenes?)

37 “Oh Jerusalem! Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to you! How often I longed to gather your children like a hen gathers her chicks beneath her wings, but you were not willing! (The state of humanity, during life as we presently know it, this all important contrast.) 38 See, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I say to you, you (Jerusalem) will not see me agaiN, untiL you (Jerusalem) say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD.’” (Rev.7:9,4)

1 - Now the Spirit of God specifically says, in later times some will depart from the faith by listening to deceitful spirits and teachings [didaskalia - instruction, information, teachings] of demons [daimonion - evil-spirit, demon, heathen deity] 2 through the insincerity [hupokrisis - a reply, answer, playacting, hypocrisy, stage playing] of liars [pseudologos - speaking lies; a liar passing on false conclusions because working with false premises] whose consciences are seared [kautériazó] 3 (in Paul’s day) forbidding marriage and requiring abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good (including marriage) and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is sanctified/purified by the word of God and prayer. (A prayer of thanks blesses/purifies the food.)

6 If you put these things before the brothers [adelphos - brethren, brothers and sisters, fellow persons] you will be a good worker for Christ Jesus, having been trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you are following. 7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths! Rather train yourself for godliness. (The upward progress of the fruits of the Spirit/Presence of God. And understanding Truth?) 8 For while bodily training [gymnasía] is profitable, godliness (of character) is of greater value in every way. As it holds promise for present life and of the Life which is coming.

But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness! You should have practiced these, without neglecting the other. 24 You blind guides! You strain at a gnat but swallow a camel. 25 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you actors! You clean the outside of the cup, but inside the cup is full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, and then the outside will also be clean. 27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs that look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every corruption. 28 And so outwardly you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness [anomia - from A - not, and nomos - law; lawlessness].

5 - For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom [antílytron - from antí - instead of, exchange; and lýtron - ransom-price – properly, full ransom, i.e. Christ stepped in, we are set free because he took the guilty verdict upon himself] - for all - testified to in its own [ídios - properly, uniquely one's own, peculiar to the individual] time.7 For this I (Paul) was appointed a preacher and an apostle - I am telling the truth, I am not lying - a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8 So all should pray, lifting holy hands without anger and quarreling, 9 adorning selves with modesty and self-control, women not with fancy hair and gold, pearls or costly attire, 10 but as is proper for godliness and good works 11 and learning quietly with all submissiveness to the truth. 12 A woman I trust shouldn’t exercise authority over a man, rather, to have a quiet spirit. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve,14 and Adam wasn’t deceived, but the woman was and strayed. 15 Yet as all, saved through childbearing (of the Christ) while continuing in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. 3:1 - And this is trustworthy: if anyone aspires to being an overseer (leader) [episkopé - a visiting, an overseeing] he aspires to a good thing. 2 But he must be above suspicion, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity, his children not unruly, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's? 6 He must not be a novice (newbie!) [neophutos - newly planted] lest he fall becoming puffed up with conceit. 7 He must be of good reputation, not easy to slander or accuse, so as not to fall into disgrace and a snare of the devil. 8 Evangelists, missionaries also must be dignified, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for profit. 9 But must have and hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.10 And let them be proven by time, able to serve if they prove themselves blameless. 11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers (gossipers), but sober-minded, faithful in all things. 12 Let them be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 13 For those who serve well gain a good standing and confidence.

14 I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that 15 if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. 16 Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness - which was manifested and openly revealed in the flesh, was justified [dikaioó - shown to be innocent, righteous] by the Spirit. He was witnessed by angels, proclaimed among nations, believed upon in the world, and then was taken up in glory. (Acts 2:9-11)

Haggai Chapter Two

 (Now) Weekly From the Prophets

1 - In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month (2nd quarter moon, seventh and last day of the Feast of Tabernacles) the word of the Lord came to Haggai the prophet: 2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, 3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this house as it was in its former glory? How do you see it now? 4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. Build, for I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts, 5 according to the covenant I made with you when I led you out of Egypt. My Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not.

6 For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. (A little while to Him?) 7 And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. 8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. 9 The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’” (They were discouraged this new temple would be less magnificent than the first? But God is showing them a glimmer of the final temple.. the full destiny of a temple in Jerusalem?)

10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, 11 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: Ask the priests about the law: 12 ‘If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment and touches with his fold bread or stew or wine or oil or any kind of food, does it become holy?’” The priests answered and said, “No.” 13 Then Haggai said, “If someone who is unclean by contact with a dead body touches any of these, does it become unclean?” The priests answered and said, “It does become unclean.” 14 Then Haggai answered and said, “So is it with this people, and with this nation before me, declares the Lord, and so with every work of their hands. And what they offer there is unclean. 15 Now then, consider from this day onward. Before stone was placed upon stone in the temple of the Lord, 16 how did you fare? When one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were but twenty. 17 Struck were all the products of your toil with blight and mildew and hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the Lord.18 Consider from this day onward, from this twenty-fourth day of this ninth month. Since the day the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid, consider: 19 Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing. But from this day on I will bless you.”

20 The word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, 21 “Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth, 22 and overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, and overthrow the chariots and their riders. And the horses and their riders shall go down, every one by the sword of his brother. 23 On that day, declares the Lord of hosts, I will take you, O Zerubbabel [his name means “begotten in Babylon” he led the people home, so used as a type of Christ, like some kings are used as types of the adversary called Satan, and like David of Christ] my servant, the son of Shealtiel [this name means “I have asked of God” - ask, seek, knock] declares the Lord, and make you like a signet ring [chotham - a seal] for I have chosen you, declares the LORD of hosts.” (Jesus, our seal?)

13 - “Woe to you, scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven before others. You don’t enter yourselves nor do you allow those who would enter to go in! 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you traverse sea and land to make a single convert, and when they become one, you make them twice as much a child/inheritor of gehenna (judgment) as yourselves.

16 Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it’s nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, why then they are bound by their oath.’ 17 Foolish and blind guides! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? 18 And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it’s as nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, why then they are bound by their oath.’ 19 You are blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by he who dwells in it. 22 And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by he who sits upon it.”

16 - But I (Paul) received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the greatest sinner, Christ might display, as an example, his perfect patience to those who are about to believe in him unto the unfading life.17 To the King of the ages, the immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever! Amen.

18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare. 19 Holding faith and a good conscience. Which by rejecting, some have made a shipwreck of their faith, 20 among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan (expelled from the group) that they may learn not to blaspheme (lie, twist the message, 2Tim.2:17-18). 2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all, 2 and for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. INVITATION TO A WEDDING

..There’s a wedding coming.. The invitations have gone out, and the reminders are circulating.. Many that are invited might not show up. New invitations are being sent.. They’ll need their wedding garment, truth. The bridesmaids need to be maidens.. virgins, truth virgins. For they are coming from east, west, north, south, right and left.. “Come, come to the waters.. Whosoever will”. …

“If we could just get them into the pasture Lord! …The peaceful quiet pasture..”

But where are the shepherds? Everybody has their bias. Come and fill out your application.. Doesn’t he say(?) “Let me write Truth in you and upon you, through and through.. Just come to the table. The other sheep do not have the answers. I have loved you with an everlasting love.. Beneath you are my everlasting arms.. He came to you daughter of Zion (humanity) riding on a colt.. He comes again.. upon a white horse.. Nations will lay down their weapons.. Every knee shall bow.. The Great Day of the LORD will have begun. It’s a long day.. Some knees won’t bend easily.. But the poor, the blind, the lame, the beaten and the abused.. Come. Let them come to the waters. Clean your slate, and give it to Me.” (Rev.7:9 and 4)

1 - Then Jesus talking to the crowds and to his disciples said, 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat, 3 so do and observe whatever they say, but not as they do. For they preach, but they don’t practice. 4 Instead they tie up heavy burdens, hard to carry, and they lay them on people's shoulders. Yet they themselves are not willing to carry even a straw of them. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long. [Phylaktḗrion - from phylássō - to keep, preserve – phylacteries (hebrew - tefillin) are small, leather cases containing four key passages of Scripture (Ex 13:1-10, 11-16; Dt 6:4-9, 13-21). They "rest over the heart" during prayer, also are strapped on the wrist and forehead to signify how the Word of God should regulate all behavior and thoughts.] 6 And they love the place of honor at the feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, 7 greetings in the marketplaces, and being called rabbi. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers and sisters. 9 And call no person on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 And don’t be called a teacher [kathégétés - leader, teacher, guide, master] for you have one teacher, Jesus. 11 The greatest among you shall be a servant (have the heart of servant/helper).12 Whoever exalts their self will be humbled, and whoever humbles their self will be exalted.”

9 - Understand this - the law is not for the just, but for the lawless and the disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for enslavers (slave traffickers), for liars, perjurers, and whatever contradicts sound doctrine, 11 which is all in accordance with the news of the glory of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted. 12 I thank him who has given me strength - Jesus our Lord - because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a hateful opponent! But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And for me the grace of our LORD overflowed, with the faith, and love, that are in Christ Jesus.15 This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (greek hamartians - the “missing the mark” of perfection(!) Perfection is onLy possible by God.. and not until one of two vivifications/the “putting on of incorruptibility and, thus? immortality” ..to save sinners) of whom I (Paul) am foremost.

41 So Jesus asked them a question, 42 “What do you think about Messiah? Whose son is he?” They said, “The son of David.” 43 He asked, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord? Saying, 44 ‘The LORD said to my Lord - sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet’? 45 If David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” 46 No one was able to give an answer, and from that day on no one tested him with any more questions.

                  ~ 1 Timothy 1:1-8 ~

1 - From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the call of God our Savior and of Jesus our hope, 2 to Timothy, my true child in the faith!

Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 As I urged when I was leaving for Macedonia, your remaining at Ephesus is so you may charge certain ones not to teach any other doctrine, 4 nor to devote theirselves to myths (and today, strange ideas) and endless genealogies, which are only speculation rather than the faithful management of God’s program that is of faith.5 The aim is love. Love issuing from a pure [katharos - without admixture, root of catharsis, free from contamination] heart, from a good conscience and a sincere/genuine faith. 6 Certain persons, by swerving from this, have wandered away into vain discussion, 7 they desire to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what it is they are saying or the things about which they make such confident assertions. 8 But we know, that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully. (Don’t be piling on our favorite personal convictions as rules for everyone else. No one made us god! WE follow the law by loving. Having true affection for our fellow person, and not only those just like us. Diet and observance of days do not (yet) come into it. We will follow God’s compLete calendar during the Lord’s long second advent.. and beyond.. Doing so now is wonderful also, but thinking we’re all that if we do, is the opposite of love. The message of God - the proclamation - is the “good news for all”. “Whosoever will - let them - take of the water of life Freely” - God’s acceptance and approval is a gift. Then voila! We are “born again” - Jesus is “the seed” God plants in us. It is watered by God’s Spirit/Presence, so we are growing, being transformed so that “we shall be like Jesus”. The call during this life is that those who follow through will serve - called reigning - during the Lord’s second advent, a longer, wider version of his first so brief one (Mt.25:1-13). Marry this idea (truth) with the understanding that the so notorious “lake of fire” is earthly prophecy like any other. Hello? How can this be so hard to see? (Twilight zone amazing.) All three mentions of lake of fire are at huGe fiery events. I’d list them but this is already too long. “The hope of glory” - to serve as helpers during “the” millennium and during the GWT judgment ‘day’ will not require pitchforks! ..And the “crowns” are crowns “of Life” not of metal. We yield our own self to Him. He is writing his program, his “logos” - “reasoning expressed in words” upon and within us. His script. All of His will. We can trust him to carry it out. It’s the same program for all, some now, some later. We have, also, a great instruction manual, but the adversary ceaselessly is throwing every thing at it. And always has been. God is Life, surely? So there really is no other option or way. Might as well get with the program early! With genuine response. “The way/road is narrow” with wide ditches on either side, of rules and regs, or the other ditch, a do nothing, do not respond mentality. Neither ditch works very well but is like slogging through muddy water.) 🙂

For they all had her.” 29 Jesus answered, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given away in marriage, but are like angels of God. (They are God’s and their own!) 31 And as for the resurrection of the dead [nekros - dead, lifeless] have you not read what is written: 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living [zaó - to live].” 33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

14 - It was kind of you to share my troubles! 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs more than once. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that is to your credit. 18 I have received it fully, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. 19 And God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory through Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

21 Greet every saint (believer, follower) in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. 22 All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar's household. 23 And the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

7 - “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David. Who opens and no one will shut. Who shuts and no one opens. (So if they open or shut it’s his choice.) 8 I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power [dýnamis - power, might, strength, ability] and yet you have kept my word and you have not denied my name. 9 Look, I will make those of the assembly of Satan who declare themselves as true but are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before you, and they will learn that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept my word about patient endurance - I will keep [téreó - watch over, guard] you from the hour of trial/testing that is coming upon the whole world - to try those who dwell upon earth. 11 I come quickly [tachu - quickly, speedily]. Hold fast what you have. So no one may seize your crown. (“Of Life” not metal!) 12 The one who conquers, I will make to be a pillar in the temple of my God. And they shall not go out (of the full, satisfied blessed state) any more. I will write upon them the name of my God, and the name of His city, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from Him out of heaven, and my own new name. (..Like a script..? Written on our heart and mind. Forever. Unless we are extremely dumb:) 13 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” [To be a pillar! 😮]

GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 22:11-22

11 - (Jesus continues the parable) - “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ (You can’t have been here at the wedding union wearing your old work clothes! This is the same wedding banquet as in the ten bridesmaid’s parable, where five came late and found the door to the banquet/to “the” millennium was closed.) And the man was speechless. (He didn’t have a clue. Hadn’t been paying attention? In the literal you cannot enter the millennium without “putting on immortality and incorruptibility”. Though there will be mortal survivors, Rev.20:7-9.) 13 Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind [deó - bind, tie, fasten; impel, compel; declare to be prohibited and unlawful] his hands and feet and expel him into the outer darkness. (Outside of the brightly lit celebration.) In that place (condition) there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth’ (the carnal, missing the mark condition). 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Few called during this life, to serve, called reigning during his long second advent. For to do his works, surely(?) is to reign. Note: the three mentions of lake of fire - erroneously thought to be a mythical place - are at huge fiery events. And the last one is at the fiery total universal regenesis - “the regeneration” - greek word “palin/again-genesis” which is how death dies. Yes? As Jesus said he “will draw all” (Jn.12:32) and said - “All those in the tombs/graves will hear God’s voice and will come forth” (from the graves/tombs) “some into the resurrection of life (into THE millennium). And some into the resurrection of judgment” ‘day’ (Jn.5:28-29) which elsewhere He calls agelasting correction [“kolasin aionion” oR “correction eonian” Mt.25:46, the completing of drawing all! Surely the same process for all, the crucible being life as we presently know it, until vivification either at 1Cor.15:52,53 or at Rev.21:5, 1Cor.15:24-28.

So the outside of the light darkness, is within, is inner conditions portrayed in the rich man and Lazarus parable - initiaL conditions for some during GWT judgment ‘day’. Surely to “die still in our sin/hamartia-missing the mark, would be to rise that way. Rev.21:5 - aFter judgment ‘day’ is when God says “behold I make all new” - which translators changed to “all things”.)

15 After hearing the wedding party parable, the Pharisees got together and plotted how they might entangle him in his words. 16 So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you don’t care about anyone's opinion, for you’re not swayed by appearances. 17 Tell us then, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus, aware of their intent, said, “Why are you actors putting me to the test? 19 Show me a coin for the tax.” So they showed him a denarius. 20 And Jesus said, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21 They answered, “Caesar's.” So he said, “Well then, render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.” 22 And when they heard it, they marveled. And then they went away and left him.

8 - Finally, brothers and sisters whatever things are true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, and whatever is commendable, think on these things. If there’s any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think upon those things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do also, and the God of peace will be with you.

10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly to see your concern for me once again. You have been concerned for me, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I’m in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am in, to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low. And I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of contentment in both plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through he who strengthens me. 1 - And again Jesus talked to them in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. 3 He sent his workers to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they wouldn’t come. (The so called important folk? I.e, the Pharisees, etc.) 4 So he sent other workers, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited that I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fatted calves, everything is ready! Come to the wedding feast! 5 But they paid no attention and went instead, one to his farm, another to his business, 6 while the rest seized his workers, insulted and mistreated them, and killed them! 7 The king was angry, and sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those who were  invited are not worthy. 9 Go therefore to the highways and and the byways and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’ 10 And those workers went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. And so the wedding hall was filled with guests.

2 I entreat Euodia and Syntyche to agree in the Lord. 3 Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women. They have labored side by side with me (Paul) in the gospel, together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be apparent to everyone. The Lord is at hand, 6 so don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer, and by asking with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds anchored in Christ Jesus.

WeekLy BooK oF Acts 27 25-44

  a paraphrased study

         Perils At Sea

1 - “So take heart, men! For I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I’ve been told,” said Paul, 26 “but we are going to have to run aground on some island.”

27 And on the fourteenth night, as we were being driven across the Adriatic Sea, at about midnight, the sailors thought we might be nearing land. 28 So they took a sounding and found we were at twenty fathoms. A little farther on they took a sounding again and found it to be fifteen fathoms. 29 Then fearing we might run onto the rocks, they let down four anchors from the stern, and then prayed for day. 30 Some of the sailors were thinking to escape from the ship, and had lowered the lifeboat into the sea under the pretense of letting down anchors from the bow, 31 when Paul said to the centurion and soldiers, “Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved.” 32 Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the ship's boat and let it go.

33 As day was about to dawn, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you have continued in suspense and without eating. (Hebrew days start at sunset rather than at midnight.) 34 Therefore I urge you to take some food, it will give you strength. Not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you!” 35 And when he had said these things, he took bread, gave thanks to God, broke it and began to eat. 36 Then they all were encouraged and also ate. 37 We were in all, 276 persons in the ship. 38 And when we had eaten, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.

39 When it was day, no one recognized the land, but there was a bay with a beach, and they planned, if possible, to run the ship ashore. 40 So they cast off the anchors, leaving them in the sea, and they loosened the ropes that were tied to the rudders. Then hoisting the foresail to the wind, we made for the beach, 41 but we struck a reef and ran aground. The bow was stuck and immovable, and the stern was being battered and broken up by the surf. 42 The soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any should swim away and escape. 43 But the centurion, wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan and ordered those who could swim to go overboard first and make for land. 44 And told the rest to go to shore on planks or pieces of the ship. And so it was that all were brought safely to land.

GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 21:33-46

33 - “Listen to another parable,” Jesus said. “There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard. He put a fence around it and he dug a winepress, and built a tower and then he leased it to tenants, and traveled to another country. 34 When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his workers to the tenants to get the fruit. 35 But the tenants took his workers and they beat one, stoned one, and killed another. 36 A little later, he sent other workers, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37 Finally he sent his son thinking, ‘Surely they’ll respect my son.’ 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39 And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41 They said to him, “He will put them to a miserable death and let the vineyard out to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their season.”

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures - ‘The stone the builders rejected is the cornerstone. This is the LORD’s doing, and it is a wonder to our eyes’? 43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruits. 44 And the one who falls on this stone will be broken, and when it falls on someone, they will be as winnowed.”

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew he was talking about them. 46 But although they were looking for a way to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because the people held him as a prophet.

23 - And when he was in the temple, the chief priests (leaders) and elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority!?” 24 Jesus answered, “I will ask you a question, and if you tell me the answer, I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 The baptism of John, from whence was it? From heaven or from man?” So they discussed it among theirselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd (biggest obstacle to domination, the people) for they all hold that John was a prophet.” 27 So they answered him, “We don’t know.” And he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

28 “What do you think? A man had two sons. He told the first, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 And the son answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went. 30 And he went to the other son and said the same, who answered, ‘I will go, sir,’ but did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said, “Truly, I tell you, the tax collectors (collecting for occupying Rome!) and prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And the POWER of his resurrection, as well as the partnersip of his sufferings, being conformed to his death (my lower disobedient and selfish/self-first, self dies, I let it fade away) 11 that by any means possible I may attain to the resurrection from death. 12 NoT that I have already obtained it, and already am perfect [Heb.11:40] but I press on to make it my own [we “put on immortality and incorruption at the resurrection at his return/arrival] because Jesus has made me - his. 13 Brethren/brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have yet made it, and on my own! Haggai Chapter One

 (Now) Weekly From the Prophets

      🍃📜🍃🏕️ 🍃📜🍃

The Book of the Prophet Haggai - is two chapters, and is third from the last book of the Old/Ancient Testament.

Background (we last studied Daniel) — 586bc Nebuchadnezzar sacked Jerusalem, carried many off to Babylon.. Babylon later falls to Persia.

Belshazzar, Nebuchadnezzar’s son succeeded him. He was the last Babylonian king, and was the “writing on the wall” king. He was followed by Darius the Mede (of Media-Persia) ..He was otherwise known as Nabonidus? He “received the kingdom” (under?) Cyrus the Great of Persia (remember how Persia “rose higher”?) Darius the Mede ruled only two years - Darius and Cyrus ruled concurrently, and Darius was likely appointed viceroy over Babylon by his nephew, King Cyrus who ruled from 550bc to 538bc. Darius (the Mede) promoted Daniel (the prophet) to a high position and then was tricked into casting him into the lions’ den. When he saw Daniel was unhurt, Darius decreed “people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For he is the living God who endures forever. His kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end!” And as viceroy he was, and had been, favorable to Israel.

Cyrus had decreed all Israel in all his kingdom could, and should go home, and some/many did, led by Zerubbabel (who was a descendent of King David) and they began to “rebuild the TEMPLE” (and, side note: at the time of Cyrus’ proclamation, the massive empire included once again Assyria where the northern tribes had been carried off into captivity). [This proclamation is not the one that began the countdown prophesied by Daniel called “70 weeks”.]

     Adapted from commentary:

The name Haggai means "my feast" perhaps meaning in anticipation of the joyous return from exile. He was likely one of the Jewish exiles (of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi) who returned to the land of Israel under Zerubbabel, civil head of Isreal during the return, with Joshua the high priest. It was 536 BCE, when Cyrus (as prophecied in Isa 44:28 and 45:1) granted Israel their freedom, and supplied them with what they needed for restoring the temple (2Ch 36:23; Ezr 1:1; 2:2). The work of rebuilding went on under Cyrus and his successor Cambyses (called Ahasuerus in Ezr 4:6).

     Haggai Chapter One

1:1 - In the second year of King Darius — this is Darius the Great, not Darius the Mede who co-ruled for two years. Some time has passed, this Darius (of Persia) is listed as third after Cyrus. — In the second year of Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month [on the new moon, always a festival with a community “with God” meal] the word (message) of the Lord/Yhvh came to Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the high priest, son of Jehozadak: 2 “Thus says Yhvh of hosts: It’s said by the people, the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.” 3 And continued the word to Haggai, 4 “Is it a time for you to dwell in your nicely built houses, while mine lies in ruins? 5 Now, therefore, says Yhvh of hosts - Consider your ways. 6 You have sown much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but you are not warm, and the workers wages go as into a bag with holes.”

(In other words, oh nation, where are you going wrong?)

7 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. 8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be remembered, says the Lord. 9 You looked for much, but behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, it blew away. Why? It is because of my house. It lies in ruins, and all are busy with only their own house. 10 Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11 Summoned is a drought on the land and hills, and on the grain, the new wine, upon the oil, and what the earth brings forth, upon man and upon beast, and upon all your labors.” (God iS life, and every blessing.)

12 Then Zerubbabel and Joshua the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yhvh their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent. And the people remembered and revered Yhvh. 13 Then Haggai, messenger of the Lord, spoke to the people with the Lord's message, “I am with you, says Yhvh.” 14 And he stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the high priest, son of Jehozadak, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and began work on the house of Yhvh, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the month, of the sixth month, in the second year of King Darius called the Great.

GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 21:10-22

10 - And when Jesus entered Jerusalem, with all the commotion, the whole city became stirred up. And the people were saying, “Who is this?”

11 And the crowd andwered, “This is the prophet Jesus! From Nazareth of Galilee.” 12 Jesus went into the temple and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the temple. And he flipped over the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who were selling pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of thieves!”

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the leaders of the nation [the chief priests] and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant [aganakteó - grieved, angered, incensed] 16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what they are saying?” And Jesus said, “Yes, have you never read, ‘Out of the mouths of babies come praise’?” 17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.

18 In the morning, as he was walking back to the city, he became hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, he went to it and found nothing on it but leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit come from you again!” And at once the fig tree withered. 20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither just now?” 21 And Jesus answered, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you will not only be able to do such as this, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” (Also, the “fig tree” Israel withered/fell away because GOD caused it to. Israel was separated to birth Messiah/Savior of the world, then included “in disobedience” making all equal, in order for the nations to be gathered - *within* this Truth proving drama, to Jesus, or in last days, to Armageddon, ironically against Israel.)

1 - Finally, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! To write these same things to you is no trouble at all, and is a safety for you. 2 Beware of scavengers/predators, the error workers, beware of what we call the circumcision crowd. (The hangers on to the outdated covenant with God, who as with all leaders and leading things had become both powerful and abusive/violent. Besides the purpose of “the law” was not, ultimately, the ‘magic’ needed for restoration - into God’s best blueprint - before which - this all important contrast must be gotten out of the way first, universally.) 3 For we are the true circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh/effort— 4 though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has such reason for confidence, I have more: 5 I (Paul) was circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews. As to the law, a Pharisee. 6 As to zeal, a persecutor of the church. And as to righteousness under the law, blameless. 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted it as loss, for the sake of Christ Jesus.

GospeL Verses ~ Matthew 21:1-9

1 - As they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples ahead, 2 telling them, “Go into the village and right away you’ll find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone questions you about it, tell them ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them with you.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, who said, 5 “Tell the daughter of Zion - Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and riding a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’” (The first time, second time on a white horse - just as literal as the colt of a donkey.)

6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus told them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on the colt. 8 Many of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road in front of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them before him. 9 And the crowds that went before and followed after, were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! Hosanna in the highest!”

                  ~ Philippians 2:17-30 ~

17 - Even if I end up being poured out as a sacrificial drink offering, I am still glad and rejoice with you all. 18 And you also should be glad and rejoice with me!

19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I will be cheered by the news he will being back of you. 20 For he is one who is genuinely concerned for your welfare. 21 Most seek their own interests, not those of the Lord. 22 But you know how Timothy, like a son with a father, has served with me in the gospel. 23 I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it’s going to go with me, 24 and I’m trusting in the Lord that soon I will come also.

25 I have also thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and helper to me, 26 for he has been longing for you all and has been distressed because you have heard that he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, and near to death actually. But God had mercy on us, lest we should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 So I am the more eager to send him, so you can rejoice at seeing him again. And then I too will be less anxious. 29 So receive him in the Lord with all joy! Because we should honor such as he, 30 for he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his very life to complete your aide to me.

GospeL Verses ~ John 12:9-19

9 - When a large crowd learned that Jesus was there (at the home of Lazarus, Mary and Martha) they came to see him and also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10-11 Many had heard the story and were going away from following and trying to stay in favor with the leaders, and were instead following Jesus. So the leaders [chief priests] made plans to put Lazarus to death as well.

12 The next day the people heard Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and they went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD, hosanna! King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it was written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion! Behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!” [Zech.9:9]

16 His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified (after his resurrection) they remembered the things written about him that had occurred. 17 Many had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, and they continued to tell about it. 18 This is why the crowd went out to meet him. (!A portrayal of His second coming? Zech.14:4, Acts 1:9; Mt. Zion is spiritual ..”seated in heavenly places” - it’s important to understand what’s metaphor and what’s literal, in order to understand God’s message to us. And that message is complete. Supplies all we need. And is more wonderful than any of us realize?) 19 The Pharisees said to one another, “You see what is happening? The world is going after him..”

                  ~ Philippians 2:12-16 ~

12 - Therefore, my beloved, as you have always heeded the message, not only when I’m there but now when I’m not, continue earnestly for the target, 13 for it’s God who works in you! (Why squander it!) This is his delightful design he is energizing. [“For God is the (one) working in you both to will and to work according to (His) good pleasure” - a more traditional, literal interpretation.]

14 Do all things without complaining and grumbling, or quarreling. 15 So that you will shine as innocent and blameless lights in the midst of a crooked and twisted world, 16 all while holding fast to the word of Life, so that in the day of Jesus our Lord, I may be happy knowing I did not run nor labor in vain.
